Really, really enjoyed that. Did not feel anything like three & a half hours. Other than a couple of CGI/age issues & Stephen Graham's accent it was very fucking good & I'll be watching it again when it comes on Netflix.

Joe Pesci stole the show a bit I thought.

Yep, Pesci was superb.

Despite a similar structure to Goodfellas it’s a different type of film - that was about being young & growing up; this was about age.

Aye, I think there was some semi-autobiographical stuff towards the end from Scorsese.

Just spent the afternoon watching this. What a great film, superb acting, as you would expect, but I especially liked the fact that all three main characters portrayed themselves throughout the various stages of their lives. The CGI de-ageing really is the brand new toy of directors and crew alike. Despite the length of the film and the fact it's a slow burner the fantastic dialogue and story telling acting from Pesci, Pacino and De Niro pulls you in and it doesn't feel like you have spent three and a half (four with breaks) watching a film. They caught the essence of loyalty and how far you can take it, also beautiful narration by De Niro. The music score is fine and the scenery/props caught the nostalgia of the time they were portraying.

Will this go down as a masterpiece that will stand the test of time? It will do in my opinion and I dare say I'll be watching it again soon. 10/10 Take a bow Scorsese.

Netflix also do a nice 23 minute chat with the three main characters and Scorsese. Well worth a watch.

Just finished watching this myself. Far better than I was expecting tbh, the first 90 minutes or so really did remind me of Goodfellas, but I felt the ending did sag and was a bit too maudlin. Could have chopped it down by 30 minutes imo.

Really enjoyable, excellent film. 8/10

Yep, I'd go along with that. It's incredibly well made and watchable, but never fully gets going in the same way Goodfellas does (probably a result of the subject material more than anything).

Still very good, though, and the performances really are first class. Thought De Niro in particular was superb, and it's nice to see that generation of actors having a film of such quality booked their careers (although I'm sure De Niro's already doing his best to ruin that with another Dirty Grandpa or something).

Dirty Grandpa is funny.

"Who is it?"

"Its my soon to be wife!"

"tell her to fuck off"

Tbf I've never seen it, but just assumed it was of the standard of a lot of De Niro's recent offerings.

Its just a comedy film not to be taken in anyway seriously. Enjoyable if you are in the mood. He steals the show in it to be fair. He has a wank in it as well if this helps.

Stephen Graham can fuck off the S*n interviewing prick.

Got the weekend off but might wait as I'm off 18-23 December. Plan on nothing but enjoying a drink, Xmas food and feet up in the recliner games and films

He's very good in this to be fair, if we are judging his acting ability alone he's top notch.

The Bar scene in The Virtues alone proves he is a truly unbelievable actor.

The s*n stuff though is horrible.

Yeah true mate. Shame he's tarnished himself with that rag, as he's a very talented guy.

That bar scene was unreal in The Virtues, utterly believable.

I have just finished that, I almost enjoyed it as much as the movie. Wonderful to see 4 greats chatting about their craft in a relaxed setting.

I hope that idea is jumped on with more movies, having the key cast members just shooting the shit around a table. This one was brimming with respect from Pesci, De Niro, Pacino and Scorcese but each one would offer different dynamics. One with Christian Bale would be fucking epic, especially if someone has a sly dig at him, he'd go ape shit.

Set me back a long way watching that scene. I don't think I've ever seen anything more powerful in my life from an acting perspective. I sat on the toilet with the door closed for ages just crying.
