Aquilani will always be the worst pound-for-pound bit of business because we were on the bones of our arses and Benitez decided a crocked, lightweight Italian was the best use of resources. Totally negligent transfer and then he had the balls to complain we didn't have any money. Forget about who he replaced, doesn't matter. What matters is the complete waste of very slim resources.

Top 5 transfers in any order:

salah, VVD, Suarez, Coutinho (bought for 8m sold for 140m), Mane. - VVD for me.

Worst 5 In any order:

, markovic, balotelli, joe Cole, konchesky. - Cole just hated him.

if we wanted to add moments too then;

Best moment: 4:0 against Barca, was very confident we would win the CL after that.

Worst: 6-1 loss against stoke in gerrards last game, as we were as far from challenging at that point as any. Rodgers keeping  his job felt like an acceptance of mediocrity but clearly the club were waiting for Klopp

Benteke is by far our worst signing, simply because his signing made the least amount of sense (and because he was awful).

He was the result of the divide we had at the time between the transfer people and Rodgers. One for us and one for you. Absolutely awful way to run a club, especially as Rodgers was on the verge of getting sacked. It should 100% have been vetoed.

Carroll was way too expensive but it was semi-defensible knowing we wanted to partner him with Suarez in a small-man, big-man combo, which was still kind of in-vogue at the time. And we bought players like Adam and Downing who supposedly had good deliveries. It was a shit strategy, but at least it wasn't muddled.

As for Balotelli, I'll always maintain his signing made sense in isolation. Not a massive fee, talented player who had shown flashes of brilliance in multiple leagues and with his country. The problem is that we basically signed him to be the main man that summer and he was never that.

After Benteke, Markovic is probably the second worst, because the way his career has gone, he probably never had what it takes to begin with, so you can't really say the club screwed him up. He just didn't have it. Bad scouting.

We lost 5 million on Benteke after a single year (during which he scored a fair few goals).

The circumstances that led to him being signed are part and parcel but no chance he was the worst.

We flushed 20 mil

I don't really care about resale value. The circumstances and the lack of logic around Benteke's signing makes him the worst for me.

A lot of failed signings you could argue why they were made. There isn't a single thing you could say about Benteke other than "he knew the league".

Konchesky is pound for pound the worst. With Carroll, Aquilani or even the shithouse Downing you could make a case for them having a particular set of talents that harnessed in the right way could deliver results.

You could say if we can keep Aquilani fit he could be better than Alonso, that Carroll could be the new Shearer or Downing could provide Carroll with 20 goals a season. I wouldn't make those arguments myself but if a committee are sitting around working with a tight budget I could understand them trying to justify it.

With Konchesky no one had any such excuse. The owl literally worked with the cunt for a couple of years, he just had to know he was shit he was. In training 5 days a week he seen just how useless the prick was, thousands of hours watching him and still thinking he was good enough to play for Liverpool is unforgivable. God I hate both of them.

Benteke is the worst for me. I know we got most of our money back when we sold him but that doesn't erase those horrendous performances.

Really tough to choose our outright best, but I think Suarez shades it for me. His final season for us was simply ridiculous and he would have smashed the goal scoring record in English football had he taken the 15 or so penalties we got AND wasn't banned for the first 5 games. We might have won the title too had he not missed those games. Pity he's such a cunt but loved him while he was here.

How do you go about signing players good enough for Liverpool with literally fuck all money?

The club was fucked at that point.

I get that but buying a crock of shit when you know for certain it's a crock of shit is not the most sensible way to spend money when you have fuck all of it.

Without a doubt, Carroll, I remember watching him come off the bench in his early days and it took him to fall over twice before realising that he had the wrong boots on, totally unprofessional. Didn't we sign him with an injury from a casino bar stool that ruled him out of a few games before he could make his debut ?

I think Henderson deserves to be in the conversation...

He's been a Liverpool player for most of the decade, longer than anybody else currently with us. We've got the most mileage out of his signing.

He's the only one who will remember what it was like during the dark times under Hodgson.

Before this summer was the only current player to have actually won a medal at the club.

Took massive amounts of stick from the media and our own fans, Rogers tried to fuck him off to Fulham, but he had the determination to stick with us to prove he belonged here.

And of course from his humble beginnings grew to become our European Cup winning captain.
