Klopp: Invincible season is unlikely to happen

Liverpool once again proved that they are the masters of the late show by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

After falling behind to a goal by Mahmoud Trezeguet in the 21st minute, it appeared that a below-par Liverpool were destined to fall to their first league defeat since the 3rd of January to Man City.

However, as proven time and time again, this team does not know when to give up and even after Andy Robertson restored parity after finishing neatly from a pin-point Sadio Mane cross in the 87th minute, they were still not satisfied.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold flashed a free-kick just wide of Tom Heaton’s goal, the right-back who was celebrating his 100th appearance for his boyhood club, then delivered a corner in the 94th minute which was met by a superb deft Mane header which gave the Villa keeper no chance.

It takes the unbeaten league run to 28 games since the loss at the Etihad stadium and the Reds have collected 26 points over the last two seasons from losing positions (including 10 in this campaign) which is a league high.

That kind of belief and mentality led to the question being asked if the Reds could go the whole season undefeated.

Sky Sports reported Jürgen Klopp as saying:

“It is not possible if you play like we did until we conceded the goal.

“It was not bad, it was actually the opposite, it was good football, but it was not the winning mentality we need.

"It is probably not possible, but we don't think about it to be honest. We think about how we can win the next game and the next game."

The manager was understandably proud of the resilience that was displayed by his team, but knows that they must improve greatly.

“We still have to learn and improve and sometimes you have to get knocks and we got knocks.

“For little mistakes we got knocks but in the moment we could sort it.

“It's not that we didn't deserve to win, I'm fine with the performance but there were moments I didn't like.

“ We made it difficult for ourselves. We started playing football well but not exactly how we should have.

Klopp knew that his team would have to roll their sleeves up when taking on the Villians.

“ Aston Villa were ready for a proper fight and a proper battle.

“We conceded a goal and it's not so easy to change this wrong path immediately.

“ When you watch the game one team deserved to win and it's us.

" I can imagine how bad Aston Villa will feel, with all they did they will have felt they deserved something."
