Same as Trump with his wins in the US rust belt.

Yep. The Tories have literally copied the Trump campaign. Appoint a populist idiot and convince the idiots that he will give them what they want. Lie and Smear the opposition as much as possible.

The only difference being Trump pretended he knew what he was doing and Johnson pretended he didn't.

Lab will gain a few in London but not much more.

It is as simple as loads of the leave seats in the north and midlands going tory that is going to win these cunts the election.

Bleak is definitely a word I think of when I think of Workington. Absolute fucking shithole.

I go and Runcorn Linnets with a few mates when the reds aren’t playing. We saw them play Workington earlier in the season and they brought about 50 fans, which is a lot when the average attendance is just over 300. They were the only set of fans there’s ever been a complaint about over racist behaviour.

Workington man did exist then...

I think Labour could be fucked for a long time here.

Sadly, people don't appear to like Corbyn much. People in this election went on about Brown and Blair's Labour when giving reasons for not voting for Labour in this election. Will people in future elections stick to the parties they've switched to and use Corbyn's legacy as a reason for not going back? While it's bollocks, will the press now label every future Labour leader and party as "the far left?" They've done it with Corbyn. They did it with Miliband. Is that the new stick to beat the party with? Does the party have to go back to the centre like under Blair to stop getting a raw deal from the press? If so, what's the point really? Where's the alternative politics? The catalyst for change?

Then factor in the attempts to brand the party as a racist party. The stigma of that may stick, irrespective of the truth or not of the accusation. Even with people who don't really give a shit about racism anyway.

Then, there's just people in general. And social media. We're all largely guilty of it. But, people love to gloat and indulge in one-upmanship. They like to think that they've backed the winner. Will those who aren't really that invested in politics, who've shifted from other parties to Tory, really be that arsed about switching back if they've backed a winner and can get the gratification of a few likes on social media? Owning the Libs and all that?

I'm predicting dark days ahead. The country appears to have shifted dramatically to the right since Brexit and it might take a long time to get some normality back.

Talk that Jess Phillips is planning a leadership challenge. Oh joy

Sad thing is they'd probably have had a better result with her. Mostly cause like Blair she'd have sold her soul for Murdoch backing.

Going to be extremely difficult and bitter pills to swallow over who to vote for in the future. A probable Labour leadership of people who undermined the last leader for a chance to remove a Tory leadership or parties that can't remove them.

I really fear for Liverpool as one of the last bastions of staunch Labour support in a country that has turned its back on everything we stand for.

The knives will be out big time.

So far it’s looking like Labour has collapsed in the north, as previously they did in Scotland. Not sure someone like Jess is the ideal candidate to win them back

They're talking now, on Channel Four, about the need to put an effective opposition in place quickly.  There won't be an "effective" Labour opposition, only a compliant one.

The one thing that Labour have done incredibly well in this election is that that they've banged the drum so hard about the Tories selling the NHS off to the USA. They have really backed them in to a corner on this!

Now the Tories are in a position where they have no excuses to deliver a diabolical Brexit, but also they can't do it by selling off the NHS to the USA!

How are they going to be able to do these things?

They aren't? Maybe the reason that the Tory front benchers looked so stressed this week isn't because they were going to lose, but because they are actually going to win and they have no way to deliver anything they actually say they can do.

We can only hope it come down to a fist fight. This city knocks the fuck out of every other place in the country.

Possibly but after another 5 years of cuts that will cripple them areas not seen since the days of Thatcher they won't have much choice. It would take something huge from the Lib Dems to be the second option, not digging at SD but nobody will trust her as leader. She's tainted by her voting record and links to the coalition.

I imagine they'll just go ahead and do whatever they want, selling off or making cuts wherever.

They have the power to do so, and nobody will have the power to stop them.
