It's a bit like the argument when referring to the "progress" in the developing world.

 

Average income is now up from 73p a week to 76p a week, what are you moaning about? Well, yes, admittedly you no longer have access to a public health care system, education system or running water, but you're 3p better off, no?

 

Some people have a tiny bit more money but everything costs more and more crucially you need to pay for more things as the public sector is deliberately underfunded, run down, and then sold off.

Didn't most of the cash that the poorest earners would gain through raising the threshold get clawed back as they lost out on in work benefits anyway? Plus the people who benefitted most were middle income earners- the Tory proposal to reduce NICs has the same effect, the poorest gain least.
