I wouldn't say they are done for. The Tories now have to oversee Brexit and the transition period which will end up just as messy as the initial deal agreement or worse. A no Deal Brexit is possible as many have said, but that would be a disaster. Tories may act the cunts for so long, but it could be their party that suffers more in the long run.

After 10 years of austerity and Tory rule and an election which showed Johnson up to be a sociopathic buffoon, people still vote for them and him. Labour are fucked. Stronts makes a pertinent point about Labour, they've had one electable leader in 45 years: Blair. Britain doesn't want socialism, it doesn't want social democracy, we want society-destroying, austerity politics lead by a populist with a funny hair cut. Leaving the EU is just another way to dress up the idiocy, naivety and prejudice most people feel and this election result has/will compound that.

What would your Brexit strategy for Labour have been ?

To uphold the referendum result. Regardless of which way you voted, it was a democratic vote that wasn't upheld.

Their plan to get a new deal in 3 months and then put it back to the people while remaining neutral was a fucking joke.

Going to be interesting to see which seats they have lost and whether or not those seats voted heavily to leave the EU.

My guess is that will be the case.

Don't forget they blocked Brexit from getting through Parliament countless times, hence where the frustration was from those who voted to leave.

All they had to do and say is that yes Johnson's deal is atrocious, which it is, and we'll get you a much better one, but we're leaving as per the referendum.

I’m not sure what you are getting into Labour for SD, your party fought an absolutely pathetic campaign and are mired in sheer nothingness, surely your recriminations should start closer to home.

I don't think it was bad at all, the electorate were given a clear Remain message and have largely rejected it. We haven't seen the results yet but there'll be a lot more second places than last time, so a platform for the next election, at least. Unfortunately voters have been so scared of a Corbyn-led government they've plumped for the devil they know. C'est la vie.

You ok hun?

You’ve been a proper prick here tonight Steve.

There can’t be any possible pretence left you’re here for anything other than winding people up.

Its a shame, because there’s a decent side to you but this is pathetic behaviour.

That would certainly have helped in the Leave areas but they would have lost even more ground in the remain areas and been forced to accept a Conservative Brexit offering that went against every principle the party holds.

10 years of vicious cuts, failing to invest in the communities which need it most, creating inequality - presiding over huge rises in poverty, use of foodbanks, police cuts, rising crime, underfunding our NHS, underfunding our schools and on and on the list of failures go.

Yet they have pulled of the biggest con trick in political history and won an election with the votes of the very people who's communities they have destroyed with their cuts.

They have used the poor and disenfranchised as well as the racists and xenophobes to get in with a majority so they can have their way with peoples lives. All on the back of Brexit.

So many of the biggest leave areas are poor and working class areas - traditional Labour voters.....The Leave campaign and Brexit vote has done a fantastic job of getting these people to support the tories now and buy into Boris' 'Get Brexit Done' spiel - lots of them think Brexit is going to suddenly make their lives better and 'solve' the 'problems' they blame on immigration etc.

It is a to be fair a great con trick on these people - arguably the greatest political con trick of all time.

It is my strong belief that many of them only want Brexit because of their 'coming over here taking....' mentallity and because they swallowed the kind of dog whistle xenophobia and racism that has come from Johnson that a lot of the leave campaign was built on and that he doubled down on to leave voters in this election campaign.

The party that has let them and their communities down over and over again over the last 10 years is the Tories, with their vicious cuts, creation of inequality and planned decline of their communities...

But it is all 'the immigrants and the EU's fault'... vote brexit and take back control of our borders, free money up for the NHS, they have been told by a puppetmaster working them and playing them as puppets.....and frankly in many cases satisfying some xenophobic little englander mentallity, which blinds them to the truth.

It's a massive con - a  very clever well planned and executed one but a massive con.

Like lemmings they are following Johnson and his repeated call to 'get brexit done'...they'll wish they hadn't when it happens and when he gets his hands on their lives.

They Tories for decades have never known how to break through with the areas they have tonight - Brexit was the key that has opened that door and condemned us to their rule for another 5 years.

Turkeys and fucking Christmas!

Maybe's, or maybe's when people are stripped to the bone in different aspects of their lives even the thick bastards will realise what they have done. The biggest problem now will be keeping the Union together, because that could be fractured beyond repair.

One of the most striking features of political life here for me (having lived in the southwest for the past couple of years): The number of actual right-wingers who present themselves as or even imagine themselves to be enlightened liberals. Folk who talk a good, progressive game, but exhibit incredibly narrow, dogmatic, superior, ultimately xenophobic attitudes, especially to foreigners such as myself and my family.

Nothing about tonight surprises me.
