The Snooker

The new break off shot was from Mark Williams, he's been doing it for a few months I think. The commentators were saying that in some ways it's quite an attacking break off because you don't get reds knocked onto the cushions, so a complete clearance/century break is a lot more likely. Higgins copied him last night and he jokingly made a gesture about what are you doing.

It's an interesting development because a lot of these break offs are not as well rehearsed as the traditional break offs some of the players have been practising for 30+ years and there are a lot of mistakes with it. If it becomes the norm I imagine it will make the game more defensive, at least in the initial exchanges but at the moment if anything from what I've seen it's speeding frames up as people aren't playing the break or the follow up safety shots very well.

Glad I don't have to listen to people going on about him being the greatest ever after every shot.

I honestly thought Virgo was gonna suck him off, live on telly, during his first round performance such was the delight in his voice at every shot played.

Worth remembering last year’s semi finals and in particular the final frame between Wilson & McGill. Unbelievable stuff.

Also on the same day was that match between O’Sullivan & Selby where Ronnie was just getting down and smashing the balls every time he was snookered and on the verge of going out, only to reel off the last few frames and go through in a decider.

Quarter finals:

McGill vs Bingham
Williams vs Selby
Robertson vs Wilson
Murphy vs Trump

Anyone but Selby, Murphy or Trump please.

Anyone but Murphy or Trumo for me. I don’t mind Selby. I’d love to see McGill win it. Robbo looks the next best bet after Judd (aside Selby) and Kyren winning it would be great. I’d be happy for Williams or Bingham as well. I love the snooker me
