Klopp: We want to create our own history

Liverpool have claimed another club record under the tenure of Jurgen Klopp as they registered their 13th straight league win, 3-0 against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

Playing the Clarets on their own turf is never a easy task, but the Reds produced a professional performance.

The goals came courtesy of a Trent Alexander-Arnold strike which ricocheted of the shoulder of Chris Wood and was credited as a own goal for the Burnley striker.

Sadio Mané and a 50th Premier League strike from Roberto Firmino (the first Brazilian to do so) rounded out the scoring for the European Champions and kept their 100% record, the only team in all four divisions in England to hold that mantle.

A proud Jurgen Klopp spoke to Sky Sports after the game about the continued top performances of his side.

"Very early when I came in, I told everyone that we want to create our own history and that is what the boys do week in, week out.

“ The intensity we put into games is unbelievable. I can ask for a lot but still the boys have to deliver, and they do.

“We were brilliant, there were so many 50-50 situations because of the long balls but we played early balls in behind as well.

“In moments we played really, really good football. Everything was there.

“ We were a bit lucky with the own goal, but we forced that situation.

The manager knew that his defence would have to be at their best due to the physical nature of the way Burnley’s front pairing of Wood and Ashley Barnes play, but they more than passed the test.

“We controlled the game as much as you can because Wood and (Ashley) Barnes fight so hard, and we defended it really well.

“We were aggressive but gave away no fouls, we worked our socks off. You have to show the respect for the opponent with the attitude you put in."

One of the main talking points didn't come on the pitch but off it, involving a very agitated Mane after he was substituted.

His frustration was not directed towards Klopp, but to Mo Salah who the Senegal star felt should have passed him the ball in open space during a passage in the second half, rather than take the shot on himself where he was in tight confines.

However Klopp played down any sign of tension in the ranks.

“ Sadio is an emotional guy, it's good, we are all individuals.

"Something went not like he wanted, it is not the substitution.

“Would he do it in exactly the same manner again?

"Probably not, but it happens. Nothing happened, he didn't say any wrong words.

“We will clarify it, as we always do, in the dressing room."

A international break now takes place, but Klopp is hoping that does not kill any of the momentum as his side faces a challenging period of games.

“We want to have them all healthy back for what will be an unbelievably intense run of five away games and one home game.

“We have a lot to travel and a lot of things to do, but if we play like today with the same attitude, we have a good chance to win more games."
