Prince Andrew stays silent as cops raid home of paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein

 

Prince Andrew was tight-lipped on a trip to Wales today as French police raided a flat belonging to his paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein.

 

The Duke of York refused to answer questions from The Mirror at the University of South Wales, in Newport, Gwent.

It came as pressure intensified on Andrew to help investigations into the deceased billionaire’s sickening crimes.

 

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood told the Welsh Assembly she was “alarmed” by Andrew’s invite to the business event.

 

She added: “This member of the royal family has been accused of some very serious crimes and abuses of power.

“Many believe his connections with the upper echelons of the British establishment will shade him from the justice system, even if there is a case to answer.” The Prince denies any wrongdoing.

 

Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz has launched a probe into alleged abuse by Epstein into victims as young as 12.

He believes there is evidence he shipped girls to France as “sex slaves”.

 

Guests at Epstein’s £7.14million Paris flat, which reportedly had a massage room, included ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell who allegedly procured victims.

 

Andrew and Maxwell, the daughter of late Mirror owner Robert Maxwell, were friends and travelled regularly together.

 

Maxwell also denies any wrongdoing.

 

A “black book” stolen by Epstein’s butler contains names of Paris contacts who it is claimed may know the Duke.

 

Commenting on the French probe, a source said: “Prince Andrew would be an obvious person to assist this enqiry. He is clearly deeply involved in this case.”

 

Last week Virginia Guiffre repeated claims Epstein made her have sex with Andrew, who she called “an abuser”.

The Duke has strenuously denied “any form of sexual contact or relationship” with the then 17-year-old.

 

A Buckingham Palace statement by on behalf of the prince, added the claims were “false and without foundation”.

Convicted paedophile Epstein killed himself in a New York prison in August while awating sex-trafficking charges.
