I would have thought that if you think all land should be owned by the state and not to be bought and sold you are a communist. Dont think anyone on here has come out as one yet

As an aside, the Queen owns all the land in the UK you just buy the right to use it.

If you look at where the phrase comes from, it's clearly associated with Marx.

I'm sure at some point in his life Marx might have said "Ooh, I do like a nice brew and a slice of cake".  I'm not sure that agreeing with the sentiment automatically makes you a Marxist.

Who said that? I might have missed it but I don’t think anybody said that.

What the absolute fuck are you talking about, A Red? That’s just not right.

Does land need to be owned? Surely some land (at least) can be kept as common land. The Government or some trust or something could have responsibility to manage and maintain it, without anyone claiming ownership.

It always has been.

Sounds like the Government would own it if they are responsible for it. Could I pitch a tent and live for free?

I do not mind the concept but many centuries of human (and natural) history are not on your side.

It's a mix isn't it?

Some land is public land, some is owned by historically rich fuckers like the Royal Family or Catholic Church, some is owned by corporations other bits and bobs are owned by individuals - or there's some convoluted leasehold arrangement type deal, which is sort of the same thing.

Doesn't the US have the largest amount of National Parks of any country?  Isn't that all publicly owned land?

Well, that public land is owned by the US Gov innit? Some National Park Service , some state agencies (Fish and Game etc)  and some the Feds. All of it would have restricted access. So while there may be various entities that are "public" there is no doubt about ownership.

None of it is not owned.

Ah, ok, got you.  Yes I doubt there is much "free land" knocking about anywhere.  There's always one arsehole who will muck it up and ruin it for everyone else, so there needs to be a few rules.

Agree.  Even a feeble centrist cunt like me ended making love to a tree.

I answered lots of stuff with "agree" rather than "firmly agree" (or whatever the adverb was). Partly because the questions were so open. So, I don't really know why I was plonked so far towards the bottom left corner. Anyway, most of the forum appears to be about there and most of the forum isn't Marxist. It's somewhere between Social Democrat and Democratic Socialist (which I am as well).

The set of questions, for example, had no way of determining if someone was an anarchist.

Tis true, the Queen owns all the land, I think its also true of Australia and some other commonwealth countries, might be wrong but go check it out. Its different in the US if you buy a field, no-one can take it off you

Unless you are saying its wrong because its the state not effectively the Queen owns all the land, I am right. The state (which I called the Queen) can take any land off you e.g as happened in the 2nd World War, usually with a compulsory purchase at a fair price or any price for that matter.

If you think you are a land owner, ultimately you are not, you are just on the land registry as the person that has the right to live on or use it.

The idea that the Queen owns all the land on the UK is just... well, let's just say it requires evidence.

Maybe not in this day and age but if we were to go back far enough in time it might have been very different.

How much of it was sold off by the various royals down the generations ?

It might not have been done in the interest of the queen but there have been plenty examples in the last 40/50 years alone that prove if someone wants your land/property no matter how much you protest, your fucked.

Is it technically not all state owned ?

So does this mean state=monarchy?

The problem with evidence is that the source is open to "who the fuck are they?" or "well they would say that" etc

Heres an example where you can say that
