Chelsea (N) Super Cup Final 14/8

Not the best display. During the 90 minutes, we started both halves much the better side but became more and more ragged as those halves went on.

There were several factors. Firstly, the full backs didn't offer anything offensively. We know that isn't Joe's game but Robbo seemed strangely subdued. Big Bird generally defended solidly but was reponsible for some very poor distribution at times. The midfield starters were more workmanlike than creative, although they (especially Hendo) got forward well. As the first half wore on, Big Game James looked more and more sluggish. That knock he took clearly didn't help. Ox, apart from one excellent pass to create a chance for Mo, just couldn't get into the game.

The game turned upon the arrival of Bobby who was electric for the first 20 minutes of the second half. He found it tougher when we started getting ragged again, but all of a sudden we were making things happen in attack. He set up both of Sadio's goals, and was inches away from scoring himself right at the end of normal time.

I don't understand why the VAR officials can't ask the ref to reconsider a decision if VAR proves inconclusive (or shows very little to suggest an infringement) because instances like Abraham tumbling in the box while trying to initiate contact and getting the decision aren't deemed to be a clear and obvious error. That was the one call the ref definitely got wrong on the night. She was otherwise prepared to let the game flow and recognise that there's bound to be a little competitive edge in there, letting a few things go that normally get penalised in games. I wonder if Adrian could have sold Abraham a dummy though, because the Chelsea man was clearly playing for the contact and nothing else.

A lot of very good penalties in the shoot-out from both sides. Kepa nearly managed to stop efforts from Big Div and Trent but both shots were well struck. I thought Adrian saving from Abraham was a bit of justice being served, and it's nice for the new guy to get a key moment for us. Not ideal to have had to play 120 minutes plus pens in sapping heat mind you.

It's another trophy in the bag, and that is something we need to get into the habit of.

Always nice to win Silverware, even though we made hard work of it at times. Also great to lift the cup in front of those Chelsea wankers after beating them.

Most of our problems were self inflicted this evening. The starting line up was a bit off. Ox is not that productive on the left side of midfield and it showed. Gomez should never be played as a full back again, well not against decent opposition. His reading of the game is pants, he also is either half arsed at getting back or backs off players who are on the ball who then have loads of time to get a cross in. This high line we insist on playing is also not my cup of tea. Fine against a loan forward against the weaker teams, but against clever midfielders who can spot a pass it is going to cost us big time.

Bobby with two assists and Mane with two goals. Their penalty was a joke imo, the fucker dived, so it was sweet as fuck that Adrian saved his effort in the shootout to win us the Supercup. I thought Adrian pulled off quite a few good saves tonight and was actually one of the better performers.

Back to the league now and hopefully 3 points away to Southampton.
