VAR shit show 19/20

Why was it piss poor by Robertson? He gets to the ball before the attacker. I see that as good defending. With a proper referee it wouldn't even be a point for discussion.

Robertson would be the first to admit it was poor.

There's a reason why we're not crying about refs since our defence got good.

Last night was a throw back to the Rodgers era with usually calm cool defenders looking like clowns.

It was embellishment, pure and simple. If Robertson's mistake was having his leg there to be ran into, then yeah send him to the guillotine.

Yes leaving his leg hanging was a mistake, one he rarely makes thankfully, hence why we're not blaming refs on a weekly basis anymore.

He gave the ref a decision to make, the ref got it wrong and then VAR got it wrong. There is only one person you can not blame for that penalty and that is Robertson. Funny how no one is having a go at that diving cunt.

Let us not forget they were happily diving all over the pitch with no contact, how the defender can be blamed is crazy.

Makes my piss boil when you hear ex-pros and pundits say “He was touched, he had a right to go down”.

Fuck off.

He didn’t.

He has a duty to play to the rules of the game and they specifically forbid simulation.

Callejon  knew he was going to dive, as have many in the past, Suarez, Hazard, Young, Sterling, Ronaldo and that young fucker at United being a few of many.

Robertson was naive in putting out his leg, as it was odds on the player would dive.

It’s another example of our game management being lax.

They we’re getting desperate, they had been trying it on, so just don’t get drawn into making those “challenges”.

Yes, the ref was conned and VAR did whatever it did, not that I fully understand it still, but understanding that the player was likely to try and win a penalty that way should’ve stopped the challenge Robbo made, and led to him maybe jockeying the player better, or even pulling back and making Callejon look the absolute cunt that he was.

I don't think his leg was hanging...it was in a totally natural position for someone who had just played the ball in the way he had - he had pulled it back in fact to a totally normal standing position.

VAR might still be in its infancy but the problem with it is not with the technology but with the application.

Yep, the technology is tickety-boo.

Pity about the people behind it.

Which is why the tech we have so ingeniously invented will one day fuck us over... in slightly bigger ways than making football decisions.

Why would he be the first to say it was poor? He got the ball, it's pretty much the main requirement of a tackle.

Cameras are cameras. If they're needed is maybe a question, but it's always going to be about the application because we're here because TV has been showing up refs for years.

I agree it wasn't a penalty but you don't see him getting caught like this often do you?

I'm a bit perplexed with how far isn't really fucking easy, two refs, ear pieces, job done.    There really shouldn't be any clear wrong calls.

Offsides.

The penalty would have been given tonight with no VAR.  The ref made a mistake but it wasn't deemed to be clear and obvious.  But VAR didn't cause the penalty.

But it’s supposed to prevent those mistakes. It wasn’t VARs fault it was awarded, but once it was, VAR shouldn’t have allowed it to stand.

yet it did.

it is shit.

I thought Martin Tyler's VAR complaint was particularly dim-witted; he complained that it was "pedantic."

You either get two choices, you ham-jowled buffoon - either it's pedantic or it's inconsistent. Which would you prefer? There is literally no possible way for the rule to be "it's offside if he's significantly past him, however you interpret that." He is either offside, in which case it should be ruled as such, or he's onside. There is no middle ground.

Tyler wouldnt have been spouting his shite if the VAR incident and scores had been reversed against us.

I tend to agree this millimeters offside is a bit shit but as Jamie said, that's the new standard. And it also comes about in part because linos are told not to put their flag up any more as soon as a player is offside.

The problem with this millimetres shit is it's not accurate. It's not like some super smart piece computer code draws the lines. It's just some twat at a computer with half decent PowerPoint skills. So if they do their job badly, the var ref calls it the wrong way when they think they're right. It's fucking stupid. Show it real time and see if the var ref can work it out. If not, just leave it with the on field decision.

Don't get this Barry , why would you not use any technology you had available ? Your method would make it even more of a shitfest from week to week.

New handball law is stupid.

Any touch of ball from a hand is deemed handball and goal chalked off against attacking team, but defenders benefit from this silhouette etc stuff.

One at end of Arsenal v Aston Villa game with Arsenal defender is handball all day IMO - his arms moves towards ball but nothing given and VAR does not step in.
