Weekend update :-

Kamil Grabara Returned from his successful stint with Poland Under-21s (a 2-2 draw away to Russia and a 1-0 win over Serbia) to help Huddersfield extend their unbeaten run to 4 games in a 2-2 draw at Blackburn. Didn't do that much wrong for either goal.

Sheyi Ojo Started for Rangers in their widely-condemned 1-1 draw at Hearts, playing an hour before being subbed for returning pasty-faced Lancastrian philosopher Ryan Kent. His pressing had forced the corner from which Morelos equalised.

Liam Miller Dropped to the bench for Kilmarnock after being away watching the historic Canadian victory over the United States. Brought on with 30 minutes to play against Livingston, he had one good chance in stoppage time which he dragged wide, as the home side ran out 2-1 winners.

Harry Wilson Started and played 70 minutes in the lifeless 0-0 draw between Bournemouth and Norwich.

Marko Grujic Another 90 minutes for Hertha in their 1-1 draw at Werder Bremen. Seems to play deeper and deeper every week. Still, at least he's playing regularly, unlike...

Taiwo Awoniyi Given a rare starting opportunity for Mainz at Dusseldorf; squandered their best chance of the first half with a weak shot after finding space in the area, and was then subbed at halftime after Mainz had a player sent off seconds before the break.

Loris Karius Kept a clean sheet for Beskitas at Ankaragucu in the goalless draw.

Nat Phillips Missed Stuttgart's game with Kiel with a thigh injury.

Ben Woodburn Out indefinitely with a fractured metatarsal.

Rhys Williams Back from a successful game for England Under-19s (played the full 90 minutes in a 4-2 win over Belgium) to play 90 minutes for Kidderminster Harriers in their 2-0 win over Farsley Celtic this evening, in front of a crowd of 1,045 including 6 (six) away fans, according to the Harriers website. So, exactly like international age-group footy, then.

Shamal George Secured another win bonus* as Marine ran out 3-1 winners against Marske United on Saturday, avenging the 4-1 defeat suffered at the hands of the same opposition 7 days earlier. * probably an actual tin of Bonus, or even Chappie.

Allan : Made two substitute appearances during the international break for the Brazil under-23 side which will form the squad attempting to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic tournament, in a win over Venezuela and a defeat to Japan. Since then he has made two more appearances for relegation-haunted Fluminense, both defeats. Probably as likely to play for our first team as Shamal.

Wait, there's more!

Harry Wilson Came on with half an hour to go in the 0-0 draw between Bournemouth and Watford. Played a neat through ball to put Josh King clean through and the Norwegian should have done better. Finished the match by hitting the post with a free kick.

Sheyi Ojo Got 10 minutes off the bench in the Europa League draw at Porto, then 25 more in the laboured win over Motherwell. It will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets as Ryan Kent returns to full fitness.

Liam Millar Back into the starting lineup against St. Mirren, substituted after 68 minutes in the 1-0 win that took Kilmarnock back to the top of Scottish Football (non-Glasgow division).

Loris Karius Responsible for the first goal in Braga's 2-1 win over Besiktas in the Europa when he parried a soft-looking shot straight to an opponent. Not really to blame for his entire back four going missing for the winner. Since then he put in a sound display in the 1-0 win over Galatasaray, who must be proper shit (checks lineup, sees Babel).

Kamil Grabara Returned to the starting lineup against Barnsley after missing the midweek game; arguably unsighted for the Barnsley goal in Huddersfield's 2-1 win. Six games without defeat now for the Terriers.

Marko Grujic Started the game between Hertha and Hoffenheim; subbed off at the break with the Berliners two down (they got it back to 2-2 before conceding again).

Taiwo Awoniyi Unused sub as Mainz beat Koln 3-1.

Nat Phillips : Unused sub (and probably not unhappy about it) as Stuttgart were battered 6-2 at Hamburg.

Allan Another weekend, another hard-fought draw for Fluminense 1-1 vs. Chapecoense, another yellow card. He's almost certainly better than Liam Coyle.

Midweek update...

Rhys Williams : Had to be subbed off at the end of the first half for Kidderminster Harriers after a high boot gave him a broken nose in their game with Darlington; to add insult to (literal) injury, while he was down injured, play continued and Darlington scored the only goal of the game. At least he didn't have to watch van den Berg play his position (badly) in a first-team cup game, though.

Liam Millar Came off the bench for Kilmarnock in their 2-1 loss at Motherwell, but wasn't able to contribute much to a team that had been down to ten men since early in the first half.

Sheyi Ojo Got the full 90 minutes for Rangers away to Ross County. Should have scored early on, but scuffed his chance against the post; made up for it with a powerful run and cross for Morelos to open the scoring not long afterwards, and started the move that ended with Morelos adding his second and Rangers fourth.

Marko Grujic : Played the full game in the German cup as Hertha struggled to a 3-3 draw after extra time with Dynamo Dresden. More importantly, Grujic scored the winner in the penalty shootout, about an hour after Curtis Jones did the same thing. It's contagious.

Loan watch: Wilson, Ojo and Karius among Reds' winners

Harry Wilson was part of the Bournemouth side that claimed a 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester United on Saturday, while Sheyi Ojo started as Rangers beat Hearts 3-0 in a Scottish League Cup last-four tie to set up a final meeting with Celtic.

Two Reds goalkeepers, Loris Karius and Kamil Grabara, helped their teams secure three points away from home.

Karius’ Besiktas defeated Antalyaspor 2-1 and Grabara kept a clean sheet in Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 triumph at Brentford in the Championship.

In Germany, Marko Grujic’s Hertha BSC suffered a 1-0 derby loss to Union Berlin and Nathaniel Phillips played the full 90 minutes as VfB Stuttgart won 3-1 against Dynamo Dresden.

Allan Rodrigues de Souza featured in Fluminense’s goalless stalemate with Vasco da Gama at the Maracana, while the fortunes of Liam Millar and Shamal George were in contrast to each other.

Millar was substituted late on as Kilmarnock lost 3-0 to Aberdeen as George’s Marine beat Ramsbottom United 4-3.

And it just don't stop!

Loris Karius : More Euro misery for the German on Thursday as the 3-1 defeat at Braga (where he was at fault for at least two of the goals) means that Besiktas are unable to qualify for the knockout phase of the competition. Bounced back with another domestic clean sheet in last night's 1-0 win over Denizlispor, leaving them three points off the top after 11 games. Still spending his international breaks shopping and sunbathing, and it's not like Leno, Neuer or ter Stegen are Dean Henderson, is it now?

Sheyi Ojo : Unused sub on Thursday, then got half an hour off the bench yesterday against Livingston once the game was already won.

Liam Miller : Came on in the second half for Kilmarnock, who were looking to take advantage of Hamilton being down to 10 men, but could not find a winner as the game finished 2-2. Now away with Canada (which means sitting on a bench next to Dave's Boy (retired) Junior Hoilett, watching Alphonso Davies).

Harry Wilson : Scored one of the best goals of the weekend from a immaculately-executed corner for Bournemouth, but couldn't stop them falling to a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. Now away with Wales (which means sitting as far away from Giggseh as possible, while Daniel James feigns injury).

Marko Grujic : Unused substitute against Leipzig as he was scapegoated for the tepid display in the derby defeat by Union, making him blameless for the 4-2 loss to the energy drink-fuelled visitors. Still ignored by the Srbian national team.

Nat Phillips : Also an unused substitute by Stuttgart in their 1-0 defeat by Osnabruck. Not on international duty, due to Manchester not being an independent member of FIFA (yet).

Taiwo Awoniyi : Not involved as Mainz lost again 2-3 to Union Berlin. He's not getting that all-important international debut this season, is he?

Ben Woodburn : Still out injured with his broken foot, missing Oxford's 2-0 FA Cup win at Hayes & Yeading. Misses the chance to be ignored by Giggseh.

Rhys Williams : Still out injured with his broken face, missing Kiderminster's 4-2 home defeat by King's Lynn. Misses the chance to flick snot at Bobby Duncan with England Under-19s.

Shamal George : Still at Marine. Missed a near-post corner against Pontefract Collieries, cancelling out the opener from pre-season legend and promising young quantity surveyor Craig Lindfield. It finished 1-1.

Allan : Played twice for Fluminense this week, a win at Sao Paulo on Thursday followed by defeat at home to Internacional. Six games left, one point above the drop zone, it's looking grim.

Kamil Grabara : Huddersfield finally lost a game under the Cowleys, 3-1 at high-flying Preston North End. Could have done better at his near post with the second goal, should avoid the blame for the opener, and the pelanty that finished the scoring was probably unstoppable. Now away with Poland Under-21s, in Bulgaria - not much sunbathing.

Will Harry Wilson make it at LFC? That's the question I ponder.

I don’t think so. I’ve seen him play about a dozen times over the past year or so. He’s got excellent technique all round but particularly in striking the ball. His main problem is he’s one-paced and that he really struggles to get into the game.

A correction, of sorts...

Taiwo Awoniyi The real reason for his non-involvement for Mainz at the weekend is that... well, he's in Egypt, with the Nigeria squad at the Under-23 African Cup of Nations. After being out of luck in front of goal in the 1-0 defeat by Ivory Coast, he scored his first goal since May in the 3-1 win over Zambia this evening, finishing a counter-attack in stoppage time by taking the ball round the Zambian keeper and sidefooting it into the empty net from 25 yards out. Next up, South Africa, on Friday.

It's been a long time...

Marko Grujic : Restored to the starting lineup for Hertha at Augsburg, another horror show saw them beaten 4-0, after their keeper was sent off midway through the first half - for making a challenge that didn't even prevent the second goal, and Grujic himself was subbed off with 20 minutes to play.

Nat Phillips : A short substitute appearance for Stuttgart against Karlsruhe, coming on in the 88th minute after Kempf was dismissed; got his head to a couple of set-pieces while the home team were defending a 2-0 lead, which they then extended to 3-0 in stoppage time. Also got told to fuck off by Marvin Pourie - it's a small world.

Taiwo Awoniyi : Returned from his Under-23 international duty in Egypt, where Nigeria narrowly failed to qualify for the Olympics, to an even bigger shock; a win for Mainz, 5-1 at Hoffenheim. He came off the bench with 15 minutes left, with Mainz 3-1 up but down to ten men. Not a total success, he missed his clearest opportunity on goal, before managing to stay out of the way of the two late goals that skewed the final score.

Allan : Continues to be a first-team regular for struggling Fluminense, who refused to release him for Under-23 friendlies during the break while they try to avoid the drop. Defeat by Internacional was followed by a draw with Atletico MG, and then on Monday night a crucial 1-0 win at CSA (who I thought had been abolished), leaving them two points above the trapdoor with four games to go. The last game of the season is December 8th - he probably won't be playing for us at Villa Park, no matter what you read elsewhere.

Harry Wilson : After his pivotal role in the Welsh win in Azerbaijan, back to the day job for H, subbed off at half-time by Bournemouth (already down to ten men by that stage) in their loss to Wolves. Even his biggest fan would concede that he had not done anything in the first 45 to avoid being sacrificed.

Sheyi Ojo : Roughly 25 minutes off the bench in Rangers 3-1 win at Hamilton, a game dominated by some bloke called Kent. Playing time will be at a premium barring injuries; further developments possible.

Liam Millar : Also on the bench after being away watching Canada, Millar got five minutes with the game already in the bag in the 3-0 win over Hearts.

Kamil Grabara : Bounced back from a disappointing 3-0 loss for Poland Under-21s in Bulgaria with another two 1-1 draws for almost-competent Huddersfield. Appeared impeded by the goalscorer for the equaliser in Saturdays game with Birmingham. Should have done better when beaten at his near post for the opener against Swansea this evening, which was the first of only two shots all game by the visitors.

Loris Karius : Another clean sheet on Saturday as Beskitas won 1-0 at Konyaspor, keeping them in fifth, still just 3 points off league leaders Sivasspor. Can we get shut in January? All will be revealed.

Shamal George : 'Not involved' for Marine in their Liverpool Senior Cup defeat tonight by Pilkington. Might have been modelling, I suppose.

Rhys Williams : Returned to action for Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Trophy on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat by Curzon Ashton. Not thought likely to be coming to the Gulf, barring unforeseen circumstances (still less likely to go into a trance in the middle of a game than van den Berg, obviously).

Watched most of the second half of this. Didn't even know he was on the pitch for about 15mins. Hertha awful.

Been saying this from a long time even when he got some plaudits that he's not a klopp-type player. Spends too much time lazing around, showing no urgency.

To be fair to him he wasn't the only one but if we can get 20+ml in the summer I'd take it. He's a bit Can like for me, can't see him making it with us. Might be a good player for the right team

I didn't say that based on 1 match, Lee... I've been watching him play ever since he was loaned out and you can see my posts about him before this season started. He has the quality but not sure about the attitude.

Marko Grujic : Played 90 minutes for Hertha Berlin in their 2-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in the first match for new coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Played further forward as the game went on, possibly on his own initiative. Had a good chance for a stoppage-time equaliser blocked.
Nat Phillips : Also got a full game for Stuttgart filling in for the suspended Kempf in their 2-1 loss at Sandhausen; also booked.
Taiwo Awoniyi : Unused substitute as Mainz made it two wins in a row since changing their coach, coming from behind to beat Frankfurt 2-1.
Kamil Grabara : Huddersfield's run of decent form cam to a juddering halt with a 5-2 loss at Bristol City. Arguably unlucky with the deflection on the first goal and the own goal for the second; should have done better with the set-pieces that led to the next two. As for the last, he did his best to get off his line and force the opponent wide. Young keepers have bad days.
Loris Karius : He is not a young keeper, and Monday night was not a bad day, although he couldn't manage the clean sheet for Besiktas against Kayseri, when the mortal remains of Emmanuel Adebayor got one past him with four minutes left, the 4-1 win lifts them to third, three points behind unfashionable leaders Sivasspor. Please tell me they're going to buy him?
Harry Wilson : Bournemouth lost 3-2 at Spurs, you might have heard; you might also have heard that it wasn't Harry's fault. 27 minutes, one trademark free-kick, one neatly-taken sidefoot from twelve yards or so, another five million or so onto his price tag.
Sheyi Ojo : Followed up a low-key substitute appearance in Europe as Rangers got a 2-2 at Feyenoord with another 25 minutes in the league at Ibrox, driving a late flourish that added their fourth and fifth goals. The manager seemed happier, anyway.
Liam Millar : Another player who got to watch the first hour of proceedings as Kilmarnock went two goals down at Hibs; came on to inspire a comeback to 2-2, and should have had an assist with a pin-point far-post ball that Chris Burke fell over into the net.
Allan : Two more games for Fluminense, a 1-0 win over Palmeiras, and then a 1-1 draw at Avai, where he managed to be booked after being substituted for protesting against the stoppage-time penalty that produced the Avai equaliser. Need a bit of that, you do, said Yoda. Two games left to play, one point should be all that's needed to retain top-flight status.

Rhys Williams : Suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat for Kidderminster against Southport. Also booked. Probably played better than Ki-Jana Hoever at Stevenage though.
Shamal George : Played in a welcome win for Marine, 4-1 over Kendal Town. Also on the teamsheet were Steve Irwin, Craig Lindfield and Jordan Lussey. Sic transit gloria mundi.

While you're biting your fingernails...

Allan : Missed the final two games of the season for Fluminense through injury (which didn't prevent them dragging themselves far enough away from the relegation places that they secured a place in the Copa Sudamericana). Where that leaves Allan is open to question; where would YOU prefer to spend January, Rio or Melwood?
Loris Karius : Not his best performance of 2019 as Besiktas scraped home 3-2 at Kasimpasa; on the other hand, that takes them into second place in the Turkish League, still three points behind surprise leaders Sivasspor. Time to issue a 'hands on' warning?
Marko Grujic : Scored and also credited with an assist as Hertha drew 2-2 at Eintracht Frankfurt. That makes it sound better than it was - his goal looks to come off an opponent, and his assist, while a neat one-two, left Lukebakio with plenty to do before scoring; also beaten in the air at the corner that led to the Frankfurt equaliser. A long winter hanging round the trap door seems likely.
Taiwo Awoniyi : Got the whole of the second half off the bench for Mainz in their 2-1 loss at Augsburg. Did not get a lot of service to his feet; equally, did not win a lot in the air. On the positive side, did not miss an open goal or give away a penalty. A long winter in the drop zone seems likely.
Nat Phillips : Another start in the absence of the banned Kempf, and played the whole game as Stuttgart dealt comfortably with Nuremberg 3-1. Blameless for the Nuremberg opener (Badstuber was playing the goalscorer onside on the other side of the pitch), then didn't have a lot to do as the visitors defended for the rest of the first half. In the second half, it was more of the same initially, then Stuttgart scored three times in fifteen minutes, and proceeded to keep the ball for the rest of the game, so it's hard to judge how good a job he did. Perhaps he'll keep his place; all will be revealed.
Kamil Grabara : Bad day for the Pole in Huddersfield's goal as they were beaten by title-chasing neighbours Leeds, 2-0. Not his worst performance of the season, but a long winter in the drop zone seems likely.
Liam Millar : Two starts for the Canadian, 73 minutes in the grim goaless draw at home to St. Johnstone, then 78 minutes in the 3-0 defeat at Livingston. It feels like they're struggling, but they're still fifth.
Sheyi Ojo : Just 15 minutes off the bench in the 2-2 at Aberdeen, then not called upon in the League Cup Final. A long winter sat next to Flanno seems likely.
Harry Wilson : A rare full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, where he was as creative as anyone in a Bournemouth shirt, without it making a difference to the score. Got to watch our game on Saturday. Might have to play in defence by January. That will probably be our fault, too.
Rhys Williams : On the wrong end of a 3-1 home beating at the hands of Boston United. A bad first game for new Kidderminster boss Jimmy Shan, leaving Harriers 19th, six points above the relegation places. A long winter hanging round the trap door seems likely.
Shamal George : Missed Marine's 1-1 draw at Clitheroe, along with several other first-team regulars, with a viral infection. Craig Lindfield got Marine's equaliser. Can he play against Villa, I wonder?
