He does things like this though,its one of his weaknesses. He was having a bit of trouble with Watford's left sided players near the end of the first half and it was worth a punt. He settled down again and got a bit more cover in the second half though.

I love him.  I thought he was playing outstandingly well before his injury in 2020. It seems obvious that he is fourth choice at the moment. He has improved aerially but isn't as good there as the other 3 - a pretty high bar. Van Dijk and Matip will be 31 in the summer and the latter has known injury issues. Would we want to sell him now? I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go on loan for a season to see if he can get back to his best. Villa might love him. Is Van den Berg ready to be 4th choice?

Him being given just shorter games and at right back have helped manage his recovery much better than throwing him in at CB and being exposed.

Doesn't matter, it he looked like he done his knee again and now it appears he's fine. It would have been devastating for him, I'm happier he's alright than I am about the win. I'm the forum Jurgen Kloop for player welfare.

I'd certainly be happier going to Paris with him fit than unfit.

That is good news. Even if he isn’t used for the CL final, he should be ready for a full preseason, which can only do him and us good.

He's one of the best defenders in the PL, and a must keep for me.

 

VVD and Matip are both in their peak, whereas Joe is a few years from that yet.

Good news as it maintains the depth we need at centre half and you'd think him and Konate are our future.

 

Going to be interesting this season though as if Matip stays fit like he managed to last season it is hard to see Gomez getting any more games than he did last season.
