Harvey Elliott: It’s not a popular haircut<br>I don’t think Jurgen’s a big fan. Sometimes I’ve come in with it tied up in a bit of a new style and he has just looked at it and started laughing.I’ve promised the lads that when I score my first professional goal, it’s coming off

You only had to look at the other clubs tracking him when he was at Fulham to know he had more about him than the average prospect.

There’s no absolute guarantee he’ll reach top-tier heights long-term, but I don’t think the precedent of Klopp loanees not making it at the club is relevant here; he’s 17 and would struggle for games now we’re out of the League Cup, but the fact that he’s already getting starts for a top-half Championship team bodes well.

Seems to have started brightly, not sure if they are overrating him or if he really is the real deal.

He's really good technically. Too good for the Championship on that end, which is why he's looked impressive there. The key with us is he'll have to get a big engine so he can impact games for 90 minutes and improve his end product.

Don't want to go over the top, but he is basically a 17 year old Lionel Messi.

Messi has been modelling his game on Harveys all his career.

This was amusing: "If the stars align and we get promoted, would there be an option to buy him? If Brewster ended up at Sheff United, I see not why it should be impossible..."

Ah, the endless delusional optimism of footy fans.

Yeah but didn't the next guy follow it up with "yeah I think the Venkys have a spare £100m".

I watched the 3 minute highlight reel of him and he looked like he played well.  I think he lacks pace though.  At that level it doesn’t seem to matter to much.  He’s not a shithouse like Woodburn and he can actually run with ball and beat a player unlike Wilson but similar to both of them I struggle to see what position he fits in the modern game at the top level.  He reminds me of Mata.  The lack of pace is going to kill his chances here I think.

    • The outstanding start by Diogo Jota to his Liverpool career has been acknowledged with Michael Owen saying that the Portuguese star has been the best signing of the new Premier League season.   While Thiago was seen as the prize capture by the Reds during the Summer transfer window, it has been the 23 year-old former Wolves man who has made a seamless transition scoring nine goals in just 15 appearances in all competitions.   The quality performances of Jota have been worth their weight in gold when you consider the  amount of absentees Klopp has had to deal with through injury.   His rapid progress has caused Jurgen Klopp to shake up his front three with Roberto Firmino the man to miss out on a few occasions, a proposition that seemed highly unlikely just a few months ago.   That added depth to the front line has been seen by many as the final piece to the puzzle in Liverpool being the ultimate all-round team.   The performances of Jota have been worth their weight in gold when you consider the   amount of absentees Klopp has had to deal with.   Speaking on BT (via Metro) the former Reds striker said that consistent form of the forward has been a pleasant surprise.   “No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has.   “He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for.    "Against Atalanta he was electric.   ‘He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space. ‘I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.   “Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”     Fellow former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch added that the ability of Jota to adapt his game has been clearly evident.   “Klopp’s obviously seen something in him, putting him more central or along the three of the strikers that they have. ‘He looks like a poacher.    “He’s getting goals in the six-yard box, he’s got headers, he’s got all types of goals.    “He’s a top, top signing."
