We should be able to get through the first game with a shadow side. Let's just win it and be officially recognized as the best side in the world.

This.

Also, it only takes the side that beat MK Dons with addition of a Shaqiri here and an Adrian there (plus some grown-ups on the bench) to beat the fringe side that Arsenal will put out for the League Cup, which would put us within reach of Wembley.

There really is nothing unrealistic about wanting this squad to compete for trophies.

A combination from Origi, Shaqiri, Brewster and Elliot should allow us to challenge for the Cups without using first choices up front except maybe from the bench.  Maybe we could recall Wilson unless we've agreed a year deal.

In midfield we have players in the squad who need more not less playing time.

In defence we have good cover except at LB.

James Milner disagrees with that last sentence.

That front line gets knocked out by the first decent team they meet, probably Arsenal in the league Cup.

That's not actively trying to win a cup, something we haven't done with the domestic cups for a while.   No chance with a squad so weak in certain areas.

I've got him captaining the Cup side from midfield.

Thought he did a cracking job from left back against MK dons. OK, the quality of MK Dons isn't great, but he was more than comfortable and spent the majority of the time in the oppos half backing up Jones.

Agreed. He sometimes gets exposed by someone with real pace but he can do a really good job at LB.

We could put out a team consisting of Adrian, Gomez, Lovren, Milner, Ox, Shaq, Keita, Lallana, Origi and 2 kids which is not a bad side & batten it up with a stellar bench in case. I would also like a forward reinforcement in January.

River Plate lost 1-0 last night but won 2-1 on aggregate so are through to the final on November 23rd. Gremio and Flamengo play tonight for the other spot with it 1-1 after the first leg.

River Plate are better than Boca, based on the game I saw at the Bernebeu last season but I'd like us to play Flamengo and avenge the 81 loss.

ASUNCION (Reuters) – The Copa Libertadores final will go ahead in Santiago as planned next month, CONMEBOL said on Friday, despite the riots which have hit the Chilean capital in the last few days.

“We reaffirm our commitment to celebrate the one-match final of the Copa Libertadores at the National Stadium in Santiago on Nov. 23,” said the South American governing body on Twitter.

CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez told Radio Monumental in Paraguay, where the governing body is based, that Santiago remained the venue for the match between Brazilian side Flamengo and Argentina’s River Plate.

“They will recover from what they are going through at the moment,” he said, referring to the violent protests which have rocked the city for days.

CONMEBOL’s website also gave details of how to buy tickets and said that 12,500 would be allocated to fans of each of the finalists.

Riots that started over a hike in public transport costs prompted days of arson attacks and looting that led to the arrest of more than 6,000 people and at least 16 dead in one of the region’s traditionally most stable and wealthy nations.

This year marks the first time that the Copa Libertadores final will be played in a single match. The fixture has been traditionally played over two legs, on a home-and-away basis.

The second leg of last year’s final between Argentina pair River Plate and Boca Juniors was called off after Boca’s team bus was attacked with stones and bottles as it approached River Plate’s stadium. The match was subsequently played in Madrid.

Surprised the Echo hasnt picked this up yet.

Liverpool have rejected a luxury hotel allocated for them in Doha, Qatar, after discovering a series of human rights issues surrounding the five-star spot.

The Reds are set to head to the Middle East in December in order to compete in the Club World Cup, which they qualified for after becoming European champions by winning the Champions League in June.

Liverpool were offered the Marsa Malaz Kempinski, a palatial five-star hotel on the artificial island of Pearl-Qatar, but have turned down the proposition due to its murky past.

The news of Jurgen Klopp's side snubbing the plush venue was revealed by the Athletic, who outline how the Reds decided against the idea after some due diligence.

In October 2018, an investigation by the Guardian revealed that migrant workers employed by the Marsa Malaz Kempinski hotel were earning salaries below that of the minimum wage and were operating in breach of labour laws.

Security guards were working 12-hour shifts in 45C temperatures and earning little more than £8 a day.

The Athletic add that Liverpool have now 'informed FIFA and the Qatari authorities of their decision and have relocated to a hotel on the mainland that did not generate any such worries.'

Liverpool’s move to find alternative accommodation on their own accord will now likely increase scrutiny on Qatar amid long-standing allegations of migrant worker abuse.

It is also reported that FIFA and the Qatari authorities are said to have been responsive to all of Liverpool’s requests so far.

A large majority of the tourism and leisure sector falls in Qatar outside of the control of the authorities, with many hotels being run by global corporations. This includes the Kempinski.

The country is still in the midst of preparing to host the 2022 World Cup, while accusations are still frequently pointed in its direction over the use of slave labour in producing the stadiums for the tournament.

Liverpool are set to play their first Club World Cup fixture on December 18 at the Education City Stadium, entering at the semi-final stage.

Klopp's side will soon learn their opponents once the play-off and quarter-final stages have concluded.

Whether the Reds emerge victorious or not, the third placed match and the final itself both take place three days later, on Saturday December 21.

It would be a very nice touch if we told them that we won't participate unless it's outside of Qatar itself. Would probably just be switched to Bahrain or similar.

Does to me I'm afraid , I've seen us lose all three finals so I want us to win it

Plus I'm still buzzing when opposition managers and commentators call us "the European Champions" so being called "World Champions" would be like Christmas coming early

Have a heart kid. How do you think that will feel to manc fans? Or the ‘blue boys?’ Before Christmas as well?

*shakes head*
