FIFA Club World Cup 2019

Liverpool have finally received confirmation of the schedule for December's FIFAClub World Cup in Qatar.

The European champions will travel to the Middle East just before Christmas with their semi-final match pencilled in for Wednesday December 18 and either a final or third-place play-off on Saturday December 21.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his frustration earlier this week that FIFA had not notified the club of when the tournament would be held.

Playing in the tournament will cause disruption to Liverpool's domestic campaign with their away Premier League fixture at West Ham on December 21 set to be moved.

The trip would also clash with a possible Carabao Cup quarter-final if Liverpool progress that far in the competition, meaning a possible fixture pile-up at an already hectic time of the year.

FIFA confirmed on Friday morning that the Club World Cup will kick-off on December 11 and the eight matches in the tournament will be spread out over the ensuing 10 days.

Four of the eight participants have been confirmed with Liverpool, who enter at the semi-final stage, joining Mexican club Monterrey, Hienghene Sport from New Caledonia and Qatari team Al-Sadd.

The only confirmed fixture so far is the first round game between Al-Sadd and Hienghene Sport, the representatives from Oceania, on December 11.

Two second round matches will be played on December 14 with the African and Asian confederation champions entering the tournament.

The first semi-final, involving the champions of South America, will be played on December 17, with Liverpool in action the following day.

The final will follow the third-place play-off on December 21.

It will be one of seven competitions Liverpool - who beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Champions League final on June 1 - will be in this season.

They will contest the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

It was decided last month that Qatar will stage the tournament this year and next year after two years in the United Arab Emirates.

It's a shitfest and will cause us to play catch up. Send the kids and fringe players. Same with the super cup. No room for dropped points in the league.

Unless we are not on cities arse then go and win it

If we are in it we should try and win it..

I think it would be great to be World Champions and would piss off the bitters immensely .

Don't moan about being in it the important thing is we qualified to be here, ok it might disrupt the league campaign a bit but saying that I hope we're in it again for 2020

I want us to win this because I think ww struggle in the league this season and may not be as good in the CL. A CL hangover plus not strengthening the first team will hinder our progress.

A possible trophy in the bag and we should be all over it.

Fifa Club World Cup: Liverpool to play on 18 and 21 December

Liverpool could play 10 games in 29 days over Christmas after the Fifa Club World Cup dates were confirmed.

The Champions League winners will play in Qatar on 18 and 21 December.

The Carabao Cup quarter-finals are scheduled for that week and Liverpool will play their final Champions League group game on 10 or 11 December.

They were due to visit West Ham on 21 December but still have six Premier League games between 4 December and 1 January, subject to television.

This season the Premier League is having a mid-season break for the first time, with each team having a two-week pause in February.

Qatar was awarded the Fifa Club World Cup in 2019 and 2020 to help prepare for when they host the 2022 World Cup, which will run from 21 November to 18 December.

The 2019 Club World Cup will be played from 11 to 21 December, with Liverpool playing in the semi-finals then either the third-place play-off or the final, which are both to be played on 21 December.

Mexican side CF Monterrey will also take part in the seven-team tournament having won the Concacaf Champions League, while OFC Champions League winners Hienghene Sport have become the first club from New Caledonia to qualify.

The Caf, AFC and Conmebol representatives are yet to be decided while the other participant will represent hosts Qatar.

The tournament will feature eight matches, with the draw for the second round and semi-finals to be made in Zurich on 16 September.

  • 1 month later...

We've been drawn in the semi final and will play either Al Sadd of Qatar, Monterrey, the Concacaf Champions or the Oceania champions who are from New Caledonia.

The other side of the draw is for the Libertadores champions.  They always keep the South American and European champions apart.

The Libertadores/South American championship is only at the semi final stage and Boca V River Plate and Gremio V Flamengo are the semis.

Their 2 legged matches will start the first week in October. The final last year was 2 legs (the second leg ended up being played in Madrid after crowd trouble before the match at River Plate's ground). The final is now a one off game in a neutral venue. The final this year is in Santiago on 23rd November. The South American champions will be the last to be confirmed as a qualifier.

Our semi final is on the 18th December them the final would be on the Sunday (22nd) should we win. Our away game against West Ham which was scheduled for the 21st has been postponed and no date yet has been given for when it will be played.

No kick off times confirmed but Qatar is 2 hours ahead of UK time.

Just now, Grinch said:

U23 should do the job in the semis.   Shouldn't be risking anyone needed for a league game but money will predict that we take this sack of shite serious.

Negged for dismissing the chance of winning a trophy we haven't won before and can only win if European Champions. This is a major trophy for us until we've won it.
