I wonder if we had a buy-back clause installed on the Danny Ings sale?

He's been great - the player that our scouts knew would be a cracker if he hadn't got the injuries.

Didn't he go to Southampton? He's fair game.

He's doing this because he plays every game. He wouldn't be near the same player had he stayed at Liverpool.

Come on now Stig. Maddison is a goal threat from distance, offers creativity from midfield, and he is a set piece specialist.

If you want an English player coming into his prime with these qualities, Jack Grealish is better and would cost less than Maddison.

I mean, we won't be after either because I'd back Edwards to pull a name out of his black box that would be better than them for 20m. Or maybe just play Curtis Jones there instead.

I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could think that Grealish is a better footballer than Maddison. Grealish was ineffective until they moved him further up the pitch. He’s also older than Maddison. He’s probably the better dribbler out of the two, but that’d be about it.

What's hard to understand is how you think there's a massive gulf between the two. They're similar players of pretty similar quality. You can then have preferences either way. Not complicated.

Also, the club that buys Maddison for a massive, massive fee will be a huge sucker. There's at least a chance Grealish has some kind of relegation clause or that Villa are nice to him regarding the fee and let him go for reasonable money given he's been at the club his whole life.

Maddison is a much better footballer than Grealish. Compare their stats last season, and Madders produced better numbers in the PL than Grealish in the Championship. Also Grealish isn’t even good enough to play CM for Aston Villa at the moment.

I don't have to compare anything. Grealish plays behind Wesley and played behind some grock last season whilst Maddison plays behind Vardy. Grealish plays for a shit team, Maddison plays for a thriving team. Comparing stats is stupid.

And surely you can understand that Villa, being a shit team, need their best player in Grealish to play closer to the goal because they can't create or score goals consistently. At a top side, Grealish would play CM.

Lol. Grealish played behind Tammy Abraham last season 3 Stacks; One of the best strikers in the PL this season.

Cool, don't watch the Championship. Doesn't detract from the point that I don't really care that Maddison has a few more goals and assists than Grealish when the quality of their respective sides are vastly different.

Didn’t Villa finish higher in the Championship than Leicester in the PL?

Maybe we watch football differently. He doesn't come back and is nearly always right behind Vardy whenever I watch them. Even so, the stats still remain true, Andy fucking Carrol has more assists and Harry Wilson who seems to be having very far from a convincing season at bournmouth has scored as many in a much poorer side. He's just another medicore midfielder who's reputation is beyond his ability because he seems to be a bit of a character because of his overpriced handbags. I'd be fucking gutted if we put a bid in for him.

Edit.... And I'd sooner have nabby keita and I think he's a big shithouse and the worst of all our midfield options except for maybe lallana and that's a close run thing. If you want to class maddison as a midfielder I'd put him behind every single one of ours.

He is naturally an AM, but Rodgers has been deploying him in midfield in a 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-2 this season. Not too dissimilar to David Silva or De Bruyne in that regard.

He’s also only 23, so he will still improve further. Hendo and Wijnaldum are getting on relatively speaking, so sooner or later we will need to dip into the market for replacements.

I've watched a reasonable amount of Leicester this season, so I wouldn't say they play a 433 like we know it for liverpool, in fact I would say the shape is closer to a Rafa 4411/4231 than anything us or Manchester city play. What's clear to me, when Vardy is a lone striker (which is what he is, unlike firmino or Jesus/aguero), maddison is the closest player to him. When they bring on a 2nd striker like ineacho , you're right maddison goes like a proper midfielder in terms of position and then barely touches the ball and vanishes from the game. As I said in an earlier post, right now he would be behind every single one of our midfielders for me, except maybe lallana. And I'm not comparing him with Curtis Jones, but Jones makes more sense to me as the 7th or 8th midfielder than a chap who'd likely cost upwards of 100m.

We will need to start replacing midfielders at some point, but I think due to quantity of players in that position we can allow Jones time and maybe bring Gruic back in to replace lallana next season too. I genuinely don't see how maddison improves us today. He's bang on his level now, being at a club who are over hitting near the top who play everything through him and let him take nearly all the free kicks.

I'm relatively happy that we won't be signing either of these jabronis.

Indeed.
