I'd like to see us go all-out for Sancho now in that case.

I would have preferred something like Havertz and Werner as our transfer targets in the summer, but if Werner is out I'd like to see us go big. And I'm assuming Mbappe is completely unrealistic, so the next best is Sancho (though he'd normally cost more than we typically like to spend).

Werner is foolish for turning us down - sure, he wouldn't have been first choice right away, but I don't think it would have been as cut and dry as he makes out. He would have been fighting with Firmino for first-choice striker, different player but we could adapt as he's truly outstanding. And he played on the left and did really well last season, so I think he could have been a backup for Mane as well. He'd have gotten at least 30 games next season surely.

Add to that the fact that I think we'll be looking to cash in on one of the wide players in 2021 (Edwards is too smart to wait until after their legs start to go) and he'd have put himself in perfect position to star for a team that is built to dominate for the entire peak of his career.

Oh, well. Sancho it is, then. Might come down to whether he wants to win (in which case he'll choose us, surely, even if the offer is slightly lower) or make as much as possible (in which case he'll go to United and be seen as a cautionary tale within three years).

Right now I think Sancho and Mbappé are the only "available" players worth spending the really big bucks on. 100m+. Neymar too but that's a different story.

Havertz needs to be careful about which club he chooses, Imo. From what I've seen I don't think he's ideal for us. Very much a Guardiola/Barcelona possession-based type player.

I seem to have a different opinion on Werner.

Linked strongly with Diego Carlos, RCB playing at Sevilla. 60 million clause. Real are interested too. Built like a tank but looks a little keen to dive into tackles from the videos.

Don't see us paying 60ml for a soon to be 27 year old CB. Especially one that's only really had this season at a big club. Sevilla paid 14ml 6 months ago.

That Austrian lad from Frankfurt, Hinteregger could be worth a look. 27 mind, but we'd probably get him for 20 million and he can also play Left back. Maybe's the Swiss lad from Gladbach, Elvedi. Only 23 and can also cover L/B and R/B. Probably cost about 20 million as well.

We were linked with an 18 year old left back from Toulouse called Mathieu Goncalves in December. Both us and Juventus interested and would cost around £8.5m. Long term successor to Robertson for about the same price.

Yeah it was said that Juventus had to accelerate their interest because they were scared of us getting involved... Drama journalism.

He'll be waiting as long as Prince Charles for that particular throne.

Hahahahaha fucking hell.

Fuck it sign Lee Trundle. He’s 46 or whatever but he has got legs and so has Messi

Come on now Stig. Maddison is a goal threat from distance, offers creativity from midfield, and he is a set piece specialist.

He's playing as a number 10 in the team that's the 2nd or 3rd best in the country. He's managed as many assists as Andy Carroll and as many goals as harry Wilson. Personally I think maddison is a bit of a myth because English football is so desperate to have a new gazza.

He’s playing as an attacking no 8 most of the time, in a 4-3-3.

Agree with this. No doubting Maddison is a very good player for the league and team he plays in, but the league is full of dross with teams sitting deep to defend for their lives and hoping to break on the counter. It makes way too many players look better than they actually are, especially attack minded players. Who knows what the lad can produce on the bigger stage, guess we'll find out next year if he sticks with Leicester and he's playing regularly in the CL matches against better opposition. Maybe's we'll find out in the summer if he can get a place in the England M/F, but only if England progress to the latter stages.

Maybe we watch football differently. He doesn't come back and is nearly always right behind Vardy whenever I watch them. Even so, the stats still remain true, Andy fucking Carrol has more assists and Harry Wilson who seems to be having very far from a convincing season at bournmouth has scored as many in a much poorer side. He's just another medicore midfielder who's reputation is beyond his ability because he seems to be a bit of a character because of his overpriced handbags. I'd be fucking gutted if we put a bid in for him.

Edit.... And I'd sooner have nabby keita and I think he's a big shithouse and the worst of all our midfield options except for maybe lallana and that's a close run thing. If you want to class maddison as a midfielder I'd put him behind every single one of ours.

We're not going to find anyone who gets into our first team unless we're prepared to pay over the odds. I think we'll be looking for youngish players who are good enough to provide cover now and who the coaching team can improve over the next couple of seasons and will hopefully be good enough to step up to the first team when needed.  More Minamino than Mbappe.

Yep, that's how I see it too. Unless of course one of the "bigger" names becomes available.

I'd certainly be looking for a legitimate backup for Robbo. Rayan Ait-Nouri at Angers and Luca Pellegrini from Juventus (currently on loan at Cagliari), would be 2 young left backs that would be on my radar.

I do hope that we are in on Havertz when he does eventually look to move on from Leverkusen, as he's hugely talented. If he were to go elsewhere, then the lad Nicolo Zaniolo at Roma would an alternative option I'd be on board with.

Apparently we have bid just under 10m for a goalkeeper...

Liverpool have tabled an offer of €10m plus infamous flop Loris Karius in a bid to secure the signature of Turkish international goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to a report.

Karius endured a nightmare spell at Anfield and was promptly shipped out on loan to Turkish club Besiktas after the arrival of Brazilian superstar Alisson Becker.

The German international has experienced mixed fortunes while with Besiktas, with strings of fine performances often interrupted by unfortunate errors.

Now, a report by online publication Sport Witness (who cite Turkish newspaper Karadeniz Gazetesi) reveal that “Liverpool have offered Loris Karius plus €10m for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.”

Trabzonspor’s Cakir has long been on the radar of the Reds, with club scouts watching him in action earlier this year.

The club’s president recently stated that the Merseyside club had made an offer for Cakir’s services, stating: “There are offers for Cakir, we continue to receive offers. It’s been said Liverpool have made an offer.”

Cakir would be seen as the ideal man to provide stiff competition for Alisson and could potentially end the fairytale spell of Adrian at Anfield.

A deal in the current window appears unlikely, however, with the Sport Witness article stating that “Cakir is likely to stay at Trabzonspor until the end of the season as the Turkish club are in the mix for a Super Lig title.

“However, this is likely to change in the summer as they are in need of money given their poor financial situation.”

The Turkish newspaper report goes on to claim that Liverpool scouts have been “amazed” by Cakir’s statistics.
