Sunday Supplement mongs are sticking it to James Maddison for going to a casino while England were playing. Really knifing him in the front, they are.

What's the story with maddison? He was in the casino while on duty with England or while they were actually playing? Why was he not in the squad.

He was getting over a virus; they didn't want to expose the rest of the team to it, so they sent him home.

Seems reasonable enough to hammer him then. Seems in this day and age a bit of a knobhead thing to do, which fits in with the rest of his public persona.

Because he's 21 and needs to be playing regularly.

I think the best players would believe in themselves. Gomez being there should have nothing to do with it, because he has a record for missing plenty of games, as does matip and he would get his chance. Klopp has shown if you take your chance, he'll keep you in the team.

Purely my opinion too many kids join big clubs sit on the bench and stagnat. Imho he'd be better playing another dew years at Leeds, Brighton then making a move. 10-15 years left for him no rush. Just don't see why at 21 you'd give up playing every week to try and force Matip or Gomez out

Because if you're good enough, you'll break through. I would question the ambition of any footballer who didn't fancy joining the European champions and having a chance to work with a manager like Jürgen klopp.

I’m with Lee. He clearly isn’t as good as our starting defenders yet, wouldn’t be great for his development to sit on the bench most weekends for us.

No. Chances are he is promising but not quite good enough at present though. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be behind Duffy, Dunk and Adam Webster.

Or Brighton are a different team to us and have a different manager and have different needs from their defenders. I'm sure if signing for Liverpool was going to ruin the boys chances of progression, we wouldn't be willing to pay 20m for him to replace lovren. Gomez joined us as a 17 year old and slotted right in. I know we're a better team now, but we have 1 right back, 1 left back and 4 centre backs, 2 of which are injury prone and one of which is both injury prone and looking to move clubs. It seems to me there's every chance he would get games with us and there's no reason to suspect he would stagnate if he's a talent.

No offence to Dunk and Duffy, but if he’s that good how on earth is he not starting every game for Brighton?!?

Maybe because they are where they are they rather go with experience than youth, often find that happens with a lot of teams who are struggling or have done in recent years.

It would be good business either way. Say we buy White for 25m or whatever, if he has 3 good games, his value goes double or more. That's how it goes for young English players. Also, Lovren is going and if he were to come in and he's better than Gomez, tough shit for Gomez. We could sell him for a big fee as well if he's not happy. And like I said, if he's good enough to be good for Bielsa, who puts his own defenders under immense stress, he'd probably be good for anyone.

Top players want to play at top clubs -- the mind set that there needs to be a guaranteed spot for anyone is not ours right now and shouldn't be - that is the mind set of a mid table club.

As one of the best club sides in the world you attract players who understand, and are motivated by, this.

City bought the PFA player of the Year to sit on their bench.

Fuck knows the last time we had a good player on the bench that wasn't a starter bring rested, so it's understandable we've forgotten you need more than eleven.

I would say we are 14 deep right now. Certainly Milner and Gomez are top players.

And Adrian looks to be a very good backup keeper.

Yea it's more w complete lack of anyone you'd want to see come off the bench to change a game.   There's a little depth in centre back and midfield, although the latter is just much of a muchness, average workhorses.   Full back and attack is completely empty.     So empty that we don't even bother replacing someone like Sturridge who was apparently a good option last year ha.
