Other Football - 2019/20

The polarisation of our diverging paths, since Madrid 19 is just incredible. it may be expected that clubs contesting the final of the Champions League are roughly on par with each other, but nothing could be further from the truth in Spurs' case.

They very much punched above their weight for a very limited time, while we have have been coming up the hill in recent years. A progression of League Cup, Europa final, Champions League final, while all were ultimately defeats, were a step up at each stage, until we made the ultimate step up, in winning it, followed this season by the holy grail. Throw in the World Club Cup and European Super Cup for good measure.

Having achieved these e can reasonably expect to continue to at least compete for titles at the very highest level, whereas Spurs are hurtling towards top four hopefuls, who may or may not make it. A lot of angst for their fans, who had become a little deluded about their place under Pochettino, who admittedly had done good work with the extremely limited resources afforded to him by Levy.

It's going to be a hell of a long time before they can think the decision to build a new stadium was the right decision. Spurs fans will be able to look forward to seeing a European trophy being lifted in their new ground in the not too distant future... alas, it will be the winners of the Heineken Champions Cup, which has been confirmed for the finale of the 2022 season.

It's all gone peanut shaped for Levy and Spurs. The rot started long ago with him underfunding Poch, and having appointed Mourinho, knowing well his history and long established patterns, he can't say he didn't have any warning. They may get big money for Kane if he moves on this summer, tired of the disillusion, but then they would have to spend that wisely, or at least whatever is left after a hefty wedge of it will inevitably go on stadium repayments.

Still, it's only Spurs. Fuck 'em!
