Martin Atkinson has merely proved that he is completely fucking useless now, on the pitch and in the VAR studio. Woefully inconsistent and a complete liability.

Far lesser infringements have been given as penalties than the one Alli got away with. Alli's only mitigating factor was that Mina's arm was up by his face during the jump, but even so, his right arm didn't need to go anywhere near where it went above his head. A lengthy VAR check and they decided to back the on-pitch decision, again. They'd didn't even bother to check on the pitchside monitor, which in this country is about as useful as a chocolate teapot since the officials simply refuse to use it. Because officials are failing to effectively apply the rules and use the technology, a lot of people are of the opinion that VAR ought to be jibbed off immediately. That doesn't solve the problem because it has already been in use this season. The alternative is these same officials making on-pitch calls (and fuck ups) where the chance of immediate correction has been eliminated. The VAR discussion belongs in a different thread though.

Then Atkinson decided to give Son a red card after noticing that Gomes' leg was in a really bad way. He was initially going to give the challenge a yellow, which I don't think it was either, then changed his mind. The Everton players, plus Son and Aurier, were shocked and devastated over the incident, understandably as it's extremely grim viewing. Hopefully Gomes is able to recover as soon as possible.

EDIT: Oh, and after just 11 games of the season, we have 7 more points than these two sides combined!

According to Sky, Atkinson changed his mind when he saw the injury, VAR didn't overturn the decision.

Premier League statement

The Premier League have said: "The red card for Son was for endangering the safety of a player which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge."

The Premier League have decided to make everyone forget yesterday's "armpit" Tweet by issuing an even more ridiculous statement, quite clearly.

"The red card for Son was for endangering the safety of a player which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge."

Absolutely despise Spurs. Horrible cheating, diving time wasting rats. I can say hand on heart I despise them more than the scum across the park - they're just comical - Spurs are just vermin.
And I suppose you were rooting for the Devils club in the champions league final?.... nah thought not.... wum

Atkinson was awful. VAR for Son diving blatantly in the area then 5 minutes later Richardson gets pushed over and nothing.

It wasn't a dive

Its theatrical like Mane yesterday but there is obvious contact

The issue isn't VAR its the bellends using it to just back up the bellends officiating the game

Games are going to finish with 4 players if that's the justification.

Feel sorry for Son, that was a nothing challenge and look at the result. You see tackles 10 times worse than that in every game made by shithouse players and they barely cause a scratch. He's been very unlucky and all this shite about "horror tackle" and a bullshit red card must really make him feel even worse.

In cricket, if an umpire is found to have made a mistake, it's overturned, they take it on the chin, they move on, and there's no big hullabaloo about it. That's how it should be used. There's no backing up their mates, it's purely to get the correct decision.

Haha, Dermot Gallagher just called out Richarlison: he's spent more time on the ground than he did on his feet.

Sian Massey.  The only official in this country worth oxygen.

She is head and shoulders above the rest, but will they ever let her referee a game? I know she made a step up to run the line in a CL game, so the natural next step up would be to referee a game.
