Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona says: Coutinho will be sold, but only if the buyer meets our asking price 100-120M. If not we’ll keep him. That bluff is easy to call. Everyone knows they’re desperate to get rid, and every potential buyer therefore will patiently wait for the price to drop.

We are one of possibly several buyers saying we’re slightly interested but only if the price is dropped significantly. That may well be a bluff also making Barca sit back and wait until their asking price is met.

My guess is Coutinho will be sold late in the window, probably to PSG as we’ll not be allowed to buy him on Sep 2nd. Price? 80-90M is a fair guess. I reckon our limit will be around 70M

Liverpool set to receive just £4.5m of the £84m Barcelona owe for Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona owe £84m for Philippe Coutinho - but Liverpool are set to receive just £4.5m.

The Catalan giants splashed out £142m on the Brazilian back in 2018, snapping him up as a replacement for Andres Iniesta.

Liverpool received £105m up front for the sale of Coutinho, with the remaining £37million set to be paid in installments.

The vast majority of this money has already been paid to Liverpool but Barcelona's financial accounts for last season showed the Reds are still owed £84m for the Brazilian.

Of this amount £24m is due in the short term, and will be paid by the end of the season, with the remaining £60m set to be paid on an unspecified date in the future.

But Liverpool will only be receiving a further £4.5m from Barcelona, because the fee appears to be payable to a third party lender, according to the club's accounts.

Liverpool have already received £138m from the sale of Coutinho, and reinvested this money in Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Barcelona had high hopes for Coutinho after finally convincing Liverpool to let the Brazilian go in the 2018 January transfer window.

But things didn't work out for the midfielder at the Nou Camp and his was shipped out on loan to Bayern Munich.

This article doesn't make much sense figures wise, hopefully lazy Journalism being as they can't even spell 'Instalments' right, unless it is written by a Yank.

Looks to me like we’ve received most of the money bar £4.5 million, but Barca took out a loan to buy him and they still owe £84 million of that to whoever they borrowed it off.

Terribly written though.
