Liverpool are in the market for one of Europe's most exciting young strikers according to reports. However, they face some stern competition if they are to land CSKA Moscow star Fedor Chalov.

The 21 year-old Russian has set tongues wagging with his talent in his homeland and is seen as the 'poster boy' for the future of Russian football.

The striker averaged a goal every two games in the Russian Premier League to top the domestic scoring charts with 15 goals along with scoring a couple of goals in the Champions League group stages which included one against Real Madrid.

However, it is not just putting the ball in the back of the net that he is adept with, as the youngster also registered seven assists and he is viewed as someone with impressive overall game sense and technical skill for someone his age.

The Mirror reports that Liverpool are keen on Chalov along with their chief Premier League rivals Man City, Tottenham, Arsenal and Man United with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.also linked to the Russian international.

Chalov's current deal with CSKA runs out in 2022 and the striker who has scored 27 goals in 65 appearances is currently valued at around £20mill.

Liverpool's quality in the final third of the pitch is undisputed, but while that is vitally important, so is subsequent depth.

While Divock Origi showed his ability to cover for the front three when required to do so, the workload on the Reds squad is going be even more intense as the previous season as the squad will be taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup during the middle of December.

Therefore having extra options available will be crucial as the last thing you need is to overburden your key players.

While finding regular minutes for the ambitious youngster maybe difficult in the current set-up, it is still worth adding Chalov to the list of names that the Reds have been linked with.

And unlike some 'pie in the sky' rumours, this one could be one to follow with interest as the month progresses.

Live long and prosper.
