Tales of the unexpected

Been watching these on Sky Arts lately, I think a lot of the older ones on here will be familiar with the thing  but I decided to revisit them owing to the wonderful inside number 9 episode of “The devil of Christmas “ which in part was apparently a nod to the anthology . There are some seriously creepy episodes amongst a fair bit of shite it has to be said, stand out for me is “The flypaper” which is extremely creepy. Any fans with favourite episodes ?

I liked the Royal Jelly one with Timothy Wezzzt and Suzzzan George, very creepy when I was a kid. The landlady one set in Bath, the safe cracking episode and one where an old woman insinuated herself into her friend's life were also standouts. Unfortunately, after the first few series, the production shifted to the US and it lost a lot of its creepy, macabre atmosphere, a little like Black Mirror when it moved to Netflix.

On and The Devil of Christmas is astonishingly nasty, brilliant stuff.

I remember the one where some bloke gambled his finger against a new sports car and had to light a cigarette lighter ten times without a fail. Fuck knows what it was called though. Flypaper was a very creepy episode from memory.

If you like that type of stuff Channel Zero is a horror anthology type show. The second series is on 5 Star this week (starts Thursday I think). It's weird and excellent.

My favourite of all is the Twilight Zone episode where the dude evades a nuclear war only to drop his glasses so he can't see anything.

I think that might be the very first episode ever.

I just Wiki-ed it and, predictably, I was completely right. It's called 'The Man from the South'. The second episode 'Mrs Bixby and the Colonel's Coat' is pretty good IIRC. I've seen loads of these but I'm struggling to recall too many without scanning the episode synopsis.

Yeah, I watched all the originals in the late 70's early 80's but stopped after 82 due to joining the forces. Probably still quite a few of the later series I still have to watch.

Time enough at last it was called, the character was Henry Bemis played by the legendary Burgess Meredith! Genius television that episode.
