Anyone else eaten Pitaya (Dragon Fruit)? Really nice but they are quite expensive when you weigh up how much fruit you actually get.

It is like a bland Kiwi fruit due to the dark seeds. Very low on calories though and high in lipids.

It doesn't seem to have any flavour and needs something sharp like lime juice to lift it into bland territory. Very much 'fur coat and no knickers'.

It definitely has a spiky coat. Small little fuckers that take ages to get out of your hand if you are stupid enough to pick one up the wrong way...like I did.

Banana's are shit these days. If you don't eat them within a few days they start turning dark. Cheap as chips over here though.

Fill in the missing fruit:-

Cherry, strawberry, *****, apple, melon

It's the humble orange, you philistines.  From Pac-Man's sequential fruit order.

Cherry (100 points), strawberry (300), orange (500), apple (700), melon (1,000), galaxian boss (2,000), bell (3,000), key (5,000).

Tie a plastic bag around the stalky end of a bunch of bananas, and you'll slow down their ripening for a few days longer.

I've heard Cherry trees are pretty easy to bring along, is that the case? Seriously tempted as you also get the added advantage of the Spring blossom.

Easy mate. We've had ours 2 years and it's the healthiest tree in the garden, with just a little pruning.

Ruby red grapefruit are boss. I have a couple lime trees and one dysfunctional lemon tree that is wider than it is tall and the lemons are the size of softballs.

I am thinking of getting a couple fig trees - was at my Mom's recently and she has a bunch of them -- cut in half and broiled with blue cheese and honey. Thats some good fig.

Most cherries, apples and pears need to be cross pollinated - you need two or more suitable varieties or you won't get any fruit. Some specialist nurseries sell trees with two or more suitable varieties grafted on the one rootstock so you only need one tree. You also need a healthy bee population locally.

Things i miss these days with most fruit being force grown and never really ripe are peaches and pears.

All the pears are hard and go soft and then off in the matter of days and trying to get a decent peach is harder still. Find them now and again but end up paying a fortune for them

And keep them separate from other fruit.

Yeah, we do that anyway.

Banana skin is also great for dusting rubber plants/or similar and giving the plant nutrients. Obviously use the inside of the peel.

We live next to a huge park with ponds, we have a shit load of Bees mate. The Apple and Pear trees we have bear fruit every year and have done since we've lived here. (10 years) Same as the plum trees before we felled them. I was hoping Cherry trees would be easy work, and Karl B has confirmed this. Don't mind a bit of pruning but can't be arsed with high maintenance stuff.

Brilliant throughout but the end bit "is that an Afghan melon?" will have you rolling. If you are in need of a laugh today.... Watch this.

"Leftover venison."

I saw him on that tour (or at least do that bit) around 1990 in Vancouver. He was hilarious.
