I've completed my Album for the 60's. Quite hard as there's literally thousands of songs I love from that decade, probably my favourite decade if I'm honest. I also kept it to one song per Artist/Group. If I made the same list again tomorrow I'm sure I'd be swapping in songs I remember. (I've already edited two choices whilst posting)

60’s

She Loves You---The Beatles 1964

The House of the Rising Sun---The Animals 1964

I can’t Help myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)----The Four Tops 1965

In The Ghetto---Elvis Presley 1969

Dancing in the Street---Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 1964

Telstar---The Tornados 1962

Sheila----Tommy Roe 1962

Walk Like a Man---The Four seasons 1963

I Fought the Law---Bobby Fuller Four 1966

Where did our Love Go---The Supremes 1964

Sha La La la Lee---The Small faces 1966

Balls were they. I grew up with my parents playing most of the songs I chose. Could easily do another eleven songs.

Balls they were.  They don't compare favourably to the following four decades.  Where are the distortion pedals and screaming vocals?

Same here, tis all about opinions though. There's loads of decent songs in the 50's.

All that stuff came about in the 50s with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochrane & Elvis. Without them all that 60s & 70s rock would've sounded very, very different.

Plus in the 50s you had Kind of Blue & Giant Steps. Monumental jazz albums to name just two.

Fair enough, I am happy to be educated.  I just don't think the songs were as good, nor have they stood the test of time as well as what followed (in my opinion, obviously).

Dilemma - LA Woman by the Doors and Marvin Gaye's What's going on, were both released in 71'

You can't split them two for pete's sake. I haven't moved on from that, other than playing both LP's this morning.  What a year 71' was. Almost makes a case for having a best year ever for LP's, thread.

Muddy and Howlin Wolf,John Lee Hooker didn't stand the test of time!

Everything you heard in the 60/70s came from the likes of Muddy plugging into a amp

Aye, I mean a lot of it sounds quite tame with the lack of distortion but that's where it all started. Zeppelin, Deep Purple & The Who were all playing covers of 50s rock & blues stuff in the early 70s. When you talk about screaming, there's a case to be made that Little Richard has never been topped.

The jazz stuff is a bit different but the 50s were an unbelievable decade on that front.

Yeah. Little Richard was a great performer. One of the first inductees to the Rock and Roll hall of fame and also Songwriters Hall of Fame. Still going seven decades later.
