Fucking hell mate, you didn’t know where Phil Neal played the other day and now you’re trying to tell me what’s what with La Liga in the early 70s!

Paisley had intended to break Neal in as a replacement for the ageing Chris Lawler, meaning that he initially played as a left-back. It would be, however, his industrious and energetic performances at right-back where he made his name.

And Netzer was only in Spain for 3 of Cruyff 5 years, even when he left Cruyff didn't win it. Barcelona just weren't good enough with or without Netzer

And the year Cryuff won it was one of the three years that Netzer played there.

Yeah it was because his team mates weren’t as fit as him.

he believed it was his teammates who were the unfit ones and that the team didn’t do enough running in training, leaving him and his teammates him out of sync – his fluid style and pinpoint passing needed to find its own rhythmic groove.

With the manager, Luis Molowny, receiving the boot in that summer and the Yugoslav Miljan Miljanić taking over, Netzer could finally flourish. Back to back titles over Cruyff’s Barcelona and a domestic double in 1976 ensued.

When they didn't win the league it was his teammates fault, when they did win it then it was down to him? Nah. You haven't got a clue if his teammates were fit or not. I've just found an article from the same author as the piece you quote above talking about Magico Gonzalez as if he was one of the all time greatest players.

I can only speak for myself but the hyperbole over players from years ago based on an article or a two minute piece of footage is offputting.

You've just proved my point. Do you even know what you're arguing?

Tell you what, Madrid didn't win the league the season they signed Getzer, but the season after they signed Breitner and won it twice in a row. All down to Breitner that. He was the reason Cruyff never won more titles at Barca.

And Tony, get real will you. Do you really think anyone is going out buying fucking DVDs of Getzer to judge him in a draft. What about DVDs of Zarra? Or any other number of players in the draft. You pick old players, you take the risk that outside of the true world greats like Pele or Cruyff people may not be able to judge them properly, same as every draft.

Do any of your DVDs tell you if Getzer was the main reason Cruyff only won one league at Barca? Because that was the claim Ardja made. Getzer was so good it seems that he even stopped Cruyff winning the league when he wasn't playing in La Liga.
