I was considering Rep as well - it's astonishing how many of the best wide players in this draft are better on the left side.

In so many drafts I've found you need to get one of the wingers early as the pool was small for one of the wings.

Novelty factor? He was class. The pillar of a side that won the title and went toe to toe with our great team and lost out narrowly.

He is and will forever be known as the player who almost ended Maradona’s career early.

The video just shows why I can't take the Messi fan boys seriously claiming he is better than Maradona. They just throw goal stats and little video clips out.

Messi would not have lasted 5 minutes in that era. He's just far to small to have dealt with the abuse the likes of Maradona and Pele did. They also did it on shit pitches. Messi great today, but Maradona would be even better today than he was then.

One thing you really notice on players back in the day is their legs are fucking huge.

The counter-argument to that is that pretty much everybody says that players in the era's before 2000 had way more space. Little closing of space, no high-level pressing, no great athletes who could run forever and cover the entirety of the pitch. There's different advantages and disadvantages to era's.

Most of them thugs wouldn’t have been able to get near Messi.

Watch a young Ian Rush press from the front. Sacchi Milan was very much a team that pressed the ball. The game was only slower as even the best pitches where terrible in winter. Watch the old MOTD from the 70/80 Anfield, Highbury where crap for large spells of the season added to the heavier ball and smaller squads, that's all that slowed them Down. We'll that and how physical the game was.

Yeah, there were players and teams that were ahead of their time. But when you look at the game in general back then it was a game of specialists. #10's couldn't run, they were just there to create, and you had 2 or 3 water carriers that would do the running for them and nothing else. You had sweepers playing behind back 4's. The play seems super fragmented, and most players were one dimensional.

Nowadays, players are just more athletic and complete, but yeah, anybody playing now would have to adjust to difficult circumstances as well if they were transported back to 1985 or whatever.
