I considered Makelele - but he's too small to pair with Modric. Makelele needs some physicality next to him. Madrid have had a lot of elite DMs pass through them during  the years - probably more than any other club in history.

Makelele was one of them elite players. He's even got a position named after him the little nutcase.

Hmm.. 5"9 and waifish.. Always played with other big physical midfielders around or in front of him (Zidane; Ballack; Lampard; Viera; Essien etc.). I think he works with Busquets physically (although they're probably gonna occupy similar roles - again you can get away with it with lots of great foward players in front), but I wouldn't want to see him alongside other diminutive midfielders. That team would get killed on long balls and just brushed off the park (as indeed we found ourselves regularly vs Chelsea with the slight of frame Alonso & Mascherano)
