He's vowed never to manage another English club, and I believe him implicitly.

I can't see many clubs that would be a good fit. Suttgart is his home club. He could certainly embrace his nuttiness in Turkey. But a national team would surely be the sensible choice if he wants to avoid the chronic intensity he said wore him out. The USA has super fit players, the whole country has an almost neurotic need to believe (just ask Tocqueville), and Jurgen has all the right local pop cultural references. They'd be crazy not to try to get him.

i agree, i don't think he will go anywhere else in this country. he's also said he would only go where he can speak the language and he speaks german and english. USA could be a fit, but he has turned them down. Personally I think if he manages, it will be the German national side. But I expect more to see him as a sporting director, tv pundit or both.

Yes, although I think his problem, with any role other than manager, will be his 'all or nothing' approach. I can't seeing him sitting up in the stands overseeing everything while a manager gets on with the team - if he held back it would drive him crazy, and if he didn't hold back it would drive the manager crazy. Among his many similarities with Shanks, he'd struggle not to be around every day at training, talking to the players while the management fumed. He's good at giving his coaches plenty of liberty - as Pep showed - but that's different from standing far back and leaving them all to get on with it. I think that, eventually, would prove more of a strain than what he's just given up.

i suppose only time will tell about that. he might just see all or nothing being away from the training ground, watching every player possible and building relationships with clubs and agents. he showed on the way out of the door here, that he knows how to hand over the reins i thought. it would have been very easy for him to want to be like ferguson and effectively appointing his own replacement.

So he only needed 7 months off then? or was it the owners?

7 months is a long time to chill. I wish I had 7 months off and millions in the bank to do as I pleased!

I knew it wouldn’t be long before you were on here, posting the above!

Well it's quite obvious isn't it? He and the owners weren't on the same page last November and he decided to leave. Can't blame him like judging by the summer just gone and the contract situations thus far.

Seems justified and I'm glad for him, he's a better man than I, I would have left after they stitched him up over the super league and not buying him a defence when top of the league.

Our start to the season must have irked you mate, early days. This has brought you from the shadows. Good to hear from you again.

A bit disappointed he chose the Red Bull 'franchise' as his new employers to be honest. Not surprised but just a bit sad given their corporate ownership strategy and fans resistance in Germany to it.

Yeah, absolutely agree with this.

Thought he might have stepped into an upstairs role with Dortmund.
