 (CNN Business)The United Auto Workers union said Sunday that its members at General Motors will walk out by midnight if the automaker does not meet its demands, setting the stage for the nation's first auto strike in 12 years.

A union statement suggests the two sides are still very far apart in negotiations for a new contract.

As union officials met in Detroit Sunday morning, the union issued a new strike threat.

"If GM (GM)refuses to give even an inch to help hard-working UAW members and their families then we'll see them on the picket lines tonight," said the statement.

The union's contract with GM had expired at 12:01 a.m. Sunday but the union's 46,000 members at GM did not walk off the job at 31 GM factories and 21 other facilities across the nation at that time.

The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, 78, has cancelled campaign events until further notice after undergoing surgery.

Mr Sanders was treated in hospital for an arterial blockage after experiencing chest pain at an event in Nevada on Tuesday.

Am gutted to read about Sanders and hope he's ok and recovers quickly. If this is going to carry on draining his health though it could be best if he drops out and Warren has more support instead. Really don't like the thought of the stress this campaign is putting him through.

He’ll be fine, it’s not a major surgery. He’s been touring the country pretty much nonstop since 2015, he’s pretty damn durable. He’ll be back on the trail before long. That campaign has already performed wonders, looking forward to seeing it resume

A Republican congressman on Monday posted a fake photo of former President Barack Obama shaking hands with the Iranian president and later acknowledged that the image was falsified.

"The world is a better place without these guys in power," Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar said in his caption of the doctored photo.

 

Obama, who left office in 2017, never met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is still in power. The image was photoshopped from Obama's 2011 meeting with former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

 

Democratic Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois called Gosar's post "irresponsible."

"The world would be a better place if elected officials didn't share photoshopped images and take pride in being ignorant," Casten said on Twitter.

 

Gosar later defended himself, saying that it was not implied that the photo wasn't altered.

"To the dim witted reporters...no one said this wasn't photoshopped. No one said the president of Iran was dead. No one said Obama met with Rouhani in person," Gosar said on Twitter.

 

 

He added, "Obama coddled, appeased, nurtured and protected the worlds No. 1 sponsor of terror. The world is better without Obama as president.

The lawsuit stems from an October 2019 interview in which Clinton said that a Democrat running in the presidential primary was being groomed to run as a third-party candidate and was a favorite of the Russians.

"I'm not making any predictions, but I think they've got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate," Clinton said, speaking on a podcast with former Obama adviser David Plouffe. "She's the favorite of the Russians."

Clinton, in the same interview, suggested that person she was talking about was a "Russian asset," while not naming Gabbard.
