There doesn't seem to be an American Politics thread that deals with the stuff separate to Trump, so I thought I'd create one.

 

This has been making me chuckle over the last week.

That Alabama abortion law is a fucking disgrace. Its 2019 for crying out loud. That cunt state would still segregate blacks and whites if they could. Had a mooch around there on Google Maps about a year ago and it just left me feeling sad, lonely and depressed.

There's been a massive, orchestrated agenda by the Christian right to get their red neck states to force the issue of Roe v Wade and make the supreme court, which is now stacked with trump appointees, change their decision. Trump is as religious as Dawkins or Hitchens, but all his base are card carrying, sister fucking, road kill eating, evangelicals who know they've a massive chance of getting their collective way for the next 30 years if enough decisions get to the supreme court.

The issue in the States is the same as over here, although 'slightly' less so, in that the system is configured in such a way as that politics becomes stuffed with turds. 

 

You can't ask a shitbag not to be a shitbag, you can't beg or plead with them  to care or be patriotic, thoughtful, intelligent or show empathy, the raw material just isn't there. Same goes for Johnson, Rees Mogg etc. 

 

You usually end up in the Senate by being bankrolled by shitbags who themselves have chosen you because you're a shitbag they can do business with. At that stage, the horse has bolted and there's no point asking them not to be a shitbag.
