Maybe try reading the thread title.

Neither are that same 95% under-appreciated.

Some good shouts though. Hocus Pocus was already on my list. She already likes Matilda and Jumanji. I’m not sure Gremlins and The Mask are age appropriate!

Definitely.

Pretty much every single Studio Ghibli film. They are almost universally great. Favourites in our house were/are (we all still love them now):

Spirited Away

Howl’s Moving Castle

Princess Mononoke

My Neighbour Totoro

Kiki’s Delivery Service

In fact all of them. They are all boss. Maybe save Grave of the Fireflies until your kids are older though. It’s pretty fucking harrowing.

They are all great, not just kids films though so might need some care depending on the kid.  Some might be a bit too much and others might be too slow.  Ponyo and Kiki are probably the ones best suited for younger kids, Totoro as well, although it deals with some serious themes.  Porco Rosso and Castle of Cagliostro are top caper type films and Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle (the book, by Dianne Wynne Jones might be as good a place to start), Laputa and Nausicaa are all epic fantasy, all genius.

Some of the others are more human stories, mainly coming of age type films.  Whisper of the Heart and Marnie was there are the two standouts for me.

My son first watched Spirited Away when he was about three and then we basically worked through them all. My daughter who’s three years younger than him watched them all too from the word go.

You'd know far better than me, Paul.  Wasn't meaning your suggestion was inappropriate, was just elaborating for CT.

Throw some at me, y’all.

Baby’s Day Out was a favourite of mine when I was little and I watched it with Turdsette last week. I want to sit down with her and watch some more films away from the really obvious ones like Disney, Pixar, etc. I’m thinking maybe Honey I Shrunk the Kids or Flight of the Navigator this weekend but my memory is awful so I’m probably missing some belters.

Because of this thread, I’ve sat down tonight to watch the lion the witch and the wardrobe tv series from the late 80s when I was a kid.

we’re two episodes in and she engrossed.

Its ace.

found on YouTube, as “bbc’s Lion the witch and the wardrobe - full series in HD”

2 hours 50 minutes. All episodes in one.

Repped. Has she seen The Box of Delights? I reckon she’d love it.
