We controlled the game.   Well, most of it.    Scored and then said "break us down if you can".  They did absolutely fuck all for most of the game.

Personally I think they were scared to commit cause we looked like doing them on the break as it is.   Soon as they did start threatening near the end, big sexy had the answers and Origi shut them up.

This was exactly how I saw it.

I thought we used the ball poorly up front but there was a clear tactic to go long and I think that was our game plan in the event of taking the lead. Spurs play an effective pressing game but in the last couple of months they've struggled badly against teams like Burnley and Brighton who set out to contain them and not pass out from the back.

For all their possession they created nothing until they started gambling on throwing extra forwards on the pitch in the last 10 to 15 minutes.

Safe and well too, apparently.

Good news.

Yep. Spurs changed their natural style of play and suffered because of it. Our defenders had it pretty easy and managed the odd threat Spurs came up with.

I was discussing this with a mate during the game. Reminded us both of games like Napoli where Robbo and Trent were reluctant to push up and we kept the emotion down with a "don't make it mad" approach. I think going all out for a 2nd would have suited Spurs quite well as they were finding routes in but falling short at the final pass/shot. We were often getting overran in midfield because Rose/Trippier had pushed up so much but the long balls into the back corners worked wonders for Salah/Mane. Thought we struggled to keep the pressure in their half when we had it and often put unnecessary pressure on us through a misplace ball or an poor cross.

Still, interesting tactical game - not the most entertaining - but I'd take a 2-0 win in a final any day.

I think I'm right in saying not one yellow card was issued in the final. That speaks volumes about Spurs effort considering they were chasing the game for the best part of 90 minutes. You could also say it showed how disciplined our boys were.
