Wow that's embarrassing. The first goal, Martin Tyler "suggestion of offside" in a hopeful tone, we have VAR remember so there is still hope. Alan Smith "doesn't look like it will be ruled out" he says despondently.

Lionel Messi broke down in tears after his dream of winning the Champions League for a fifth time with Barcelona collapsed against Liverpool.

The Argentina international was inconsolable in the Barcelona dressing room following the 4-0 defeat at Anfield, where the Spanish champions were on the receiving end of an incredible comeback in Europe for the second season running, having won the first leg 3-0 at the Camp Nou. Last season in the quarter-finals Barça beat Roma 4-1 at home but collapsed in the away leg to lose 3-0 in Rome and go out on away goals.

Messi was then selected for a drugs test by anti-doping officials and the team coach departed for Liverpool John Lennon Airport without him as a consequence.

Reports in the Spanish media have claimed that, on his eventual arrival at the airport, Messi was involved in an angry confrontation with a group of Barcelona supporters furious at their team’s latest collapse in the Champions League.

I stand by what I said last week too about Messi not being the best player in history.

Once again as he's proven - and has done so many a time for Argentina - unless he's playing in the best team, surrounded by the best players who've often been bought borrowed or stolen purely just to complement him, on home turf - he's found wanting, in this case, completely anonymous.

The best sportsmen and women stand up when the shit hits the fan. Beating the shit out of someone who's smaller than you doesn't make  you the world's greatest boxer.

What. A. Load. Of. Shit. Even the best players have an off day, he had an off day when the opposition were like men possessed. To say what you’ve said, slightly belittles how good we handled him. Messi has dug Barca out of holes so many times. He might not be the best in History (I think he is) but to draw that conclusion from last night or his record with Argentina is a wee bit silly.

He created three 1 on 1's for Suarez, Coutinho and Alba which they couldn't convert. His career's been plagued with many moments where his teammates didn't get the job done. I can't blame him for that.

And breath.

Had the pleasure of meeting our very own Lizzie Birdsworth in the Albert before the game. Not seen the beautiful human in a few years. Got in the champions lounge. Free bar. Free food. Hugged Hansen, touched the european cup despite being told not too. Got drunk. Left. Met Lizzie by the Shakily statue. Walked half way to town before hijacking two out of towers taxi. Demolished Mathew St. Didn't even know Trent had been so cheeky until this morning.

Them fucking Reds.

This is why I can't be arsed with this place these days, opening gambit is to be belligerent.

Claiming Messi is 'the greatest player who ever lived' as I so often read now is footballing hipster behaviour of the highest order. Fifa generation football fandom at its worst. Skillful player scores loads of goals in world's best team year after year ergo he's the best player who's ever lived. It's like the people who try and tell people Gary Neville is a good pundit and when  you say he's not, crack on that you're some kind of footballing philistine peddling sour grapes because you can't rise above petty rivalry like  they have.

I didn't say these things about Messi because he, erm, what? He wasn't playing for Liverpool? I said it because I've seen no reason to justify the bizarre wankathon  that's accompanied his presence in this tie.

Best player in the world no doubt, has been for a number of years - but the 'best player who ever lived'. The fuck? What evidence are we basing that on beyond the fact he played in one of the two teams in Spain who are the only ones who ever win anything, surrounded by world class players and who has never, ever performed to the same standard for his country or played anywhere like Italy or England where he might get the odd slap. Zidane used to get lumps kicked out of him for Juventus and still land the ball on Inzhagi's head

Press triangle and watch Messi pass yay.

Jesus lads it's not Kiev or Baku. Plenty of enjoyable ways to get to Madrid without getting fleeced.

I know. But that's not the point. Lash a £100-200 on top of the normal price. That's fairly cuntish anyway. But putting about £500 plus extra on is fucking horrible.

I'm not going, but flight to Perpignan then 4 hour train to Madrid has been mentioned by a few people.
