I thought that was intentional, she started out stuck in that procedural cop show and as the illusion started to unravel the writing and acting got progressively worse.

 

I initially thought the same as you but the point where she was interrogating the kid and the writing/acting seemed to go way off the rails is the point something didn't seem right.

 

Whether it works as a choice is a whole other debate mind.

Yes, the interrogation scene got way too shouty and a bit odd, really.

That happens just before the illusion breaks down so I think that was the intention even if it could have been communicated better to the audience (or done in a different way entirely).

 

Katherine Hahn is great as is Debra Jo Rupp and Aubrey Plaza is usually good value, take or leave the rest of the cast so far.
