Nah, it’s perspective. Feel sadness for the art that’s been damaged (the vast majority of which was saved, thankfully), and for the french people who feel a symbolic/cultural connection to such a stunning historical site that has stood for over 800 years as the “soul” of their capital.

The roof and spire can be rebuilt, the rest of the building seems pretty much fine. Nobody was hurt. The people trying to turn it into global grief porn can fuck right off. People who visited france once, twelve years ago, crying it in, all performative mourning for social capital. And the media milking it for all it’s worth, while ignoring... well, any number of substantively more important things. As if we don’t have bigger problems to deal with.

Spot on.lets get our priorities right and help the starving and homeless in the world

I can understand people being a bit upset given its history etc but fuck me the money already being fronted is a disgrace.

Nothing like a bandwagon for the cretins to jump on.

There's a few on my FB, with it as their profile picture.

You are kidding ? Fucking hell.

Oh it's true, it's damned true! I've seen a couple of knobheads on my own Facebook feed putting tricolores on their profile pic just like they did when the Paris shootings happened.

Great historical and cultural landmark and a shame it's been damaged, but to be honest it's maybe not even in the top 5 of nicest churches I saw when I travelled around southern/western Europe.

Also, see how I made this about me? That's what most of the sad people on social media are doing. It's really not that big a deal in reality.

You OK hun ? xx

Why should the difference in wealth between the two depend on who foots the bill for the respective buildings ? They were/are both privately owned. In fact, I'm didn't Lizzy and here people came up with a way of cleverly dumping some of her buildings onto the us via the National Trust but she and her clan get to have exclusive use of them ?

Anyway, It'll be interesting to see how much the Catholic Church stumps up towards the cost of of repairs for this.

Apologies. I wasn’t saying there is any difference. It just seems like another case of the rich managing to get even more out of the rest of us

No need to apologise. Anyway, I've just looked into who owns and who's responsible for the building and found THIS.

Seems it's upkeep was/is from charitable donations. Wonder if the Pope has found his cheque signing pen ?
