Ambient lighting

That's the type of thing I've been looking at, not clear though whether or not you'd need to keep a laptop attached. I would sincerely hope not!

Seen other kits which compromise of a mini camera which monitors the TV screen. Does anyone have an ambilight set up?

I've used basic bias lighting in the past to avoid eye strain, and increase the appearance of the contrast ratio (early LCD days with ccfl backlighting), but nothing fancy that changes colour automatically.

I'd assume you'd need a camera if the laptop wasn't part of the chain, otherwise how would the lights know when / how to change? Things like Philips Ambilight are built in, but anything added to a different TV would be outside the chain.

I wouldn't get one that required a camera sticking off the top of the TV. Just not worth it.

Yeah, it'd annoy me a bit, being in my eye line, but if you want one that automatically changes colour your options are limited. It's either a camera or some kind of PC sending the signal.

Putting a Raspberry Pi into the chain sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience or skill to set it up.

Yeah, I fucked the idea off in favour of some rgb lamps that sync up with alexa.

You two seem to know what you’re on about as far as TV’s go. Help a brother out please. I’ve had my eye on getting one of these for a couple of weeks now. I was originally looking at this one which is available at Argos for £405...

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8192769

...however, Mrs Turdseye has just sent me a link to this one from Amazon which is 5” bigger and on offer today for the same price.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-55PUS6753-12-Freeview-Ambilight/dp/B07C9GQ5ND

Ordinary I’d think bigger is better but the thing thats thrown me is the words ‘3 sided’ in the description of the Amazon one and no mention of that on the smaller one. But then I look at the picture of the back of the smaller one and I can only see lights on three sides anyway.

Can you help? Are they both 3 sided or am I better off sticking with the smaller screen?

I'm 99% sure they're both three sided, so go big.

As far as I can tell it's the same range, just with a different stand.

Like a kid at Christmas here. Spent this afternoon moving my living room furniture around in anticipation. Amazon being dicks with their 7:00-19:00 delivery time means I’m gonna spend tomorrow jumping up every time I hear an engine.

We demand videos of said television set in illuminatory action.

No rhythm films though sir.
