Building things at Melwood

Got to be honest, I am pissed off that the club have allowed Redrow to buy it for a shit-load of new houses. I live near West Derby village, a couple of minutes from Melwood and the traffic around West Derby is bad enough at peak-times. There is also not enough schools in the area, or much in the way of parks and recreational space for kids (Croxteth Park aside which already gets rammed with kids especially during the holidays).

It leaves no legacy at Melwood at all and smacks of the club being greedy and not giving a fuck about local residents. They should have kept the structures there and had a massive leisure complex. Again, something else that is lacking in the area.

Its just pure fucking greed and that fat cunt Anderson definitely has his finger in the pie somewhere along the line the moon faced bastard

Bellfield was falling down this is state of the art. Maybe the Council should buy it like Finch Farm. House prices by Melwood are generally higher i’ve heard, West Derby has gone down the knick, was lovely growing up but the drug scum ruined it.

Maybe the club could build a school and a flyover straight over Holly Lodge straight on West Derby Rd?

The village and within a mile or two proximity is still lovely mate. Far far worse places under Liverpool City Council to live. I'd arguably only choose Calderstones over the village to live in.

Is he expecting the club to just hand over the land to the council for nothing. Why is it that football clubs are expected to do this and not other business. His whinging and flouncing just smacks of someone wanting to make a name for themselves

The thread isn't really about him. Its obviously highly likely that he is a cunt.

I'm on about the club. We have been at Melwood since 1959 when Shanks turned the club into one of the biggest in the world and the club we all know and love. Too fucking right they should have either sold it to someone with leisure complex ideas or had a hand in funding it themselves. As has been said above, it is already packed with state of the art facilities. They should not selling it for more fucking houses to line greedy cunts pockets.

His house is just round the corner from the village.

Its probably got better since The Yew Tree got closed down to be fair.

The Halton Castle is a boss little pub.

Hardly see any bad scalls about. Even the young lads in The Sefton for the match seem sound.

In the same year and sometimes same class as Kev. The Halton and The H&H were my haunts, hated the Barry’s. Mate of mine had it for years till he got a broomstick up his arse, but that is a different story.

I don't see too much wrong with that.  The city needs more housing.  160 homes (with a fair bit of greenspace designed in) seems reasonable to me.

(That's not to say that our club aren't a shower of smirking gobshites when they want something; they are.)

I'm not even sure what community use the existing buildings at Melwood could be put to.

Talk about missing the points made.

That land could be put to great use as a leisure complex.

What's wrong with the Peter Lloyd, just down the road?

Whats wrong with keeping the football pitches and having gym, food facility and a pool at the Selwood sight? Maybe even keeping some sort of legacy while they are at it? I'm surprised you are in bed with such Greed Mal I really am.

It would have been good to keep a reminder of the Football Club heritage - a decent outdoor pitch or two and some indoor training pitches, or something like that.

I do think that it is the council's responsibility really to provide these facilities in a coordinated manner for the community though - and they probably could have made that a condition of planning approval if they wanted to.

I'm not "in bed with" it. I just go past loads of far worse examples every day.

I agree it could have been better than  (what appears to be) something bland and uninspiring.  But it's far from the worst thing they could have done and it's far from the worst proposed project in the city.

I’m right in reading that young Harry took to Twitter to express his outrage at the club over plans to develop Melwood into residential???

He was expecting to consult with the club in the meeting about what it could be turned into? This despite the Council approving the planning back in 2017

is it me or should he have been doing that before the council he represents, granted the works?

Don’t get me wrong the club could’ve done much better with a legacy, but that was 2 years ago
