The older I have got the more I have preferred players like Molby, Pirlo even older versions of Matthews, Sammer and Barnes who just adapted their games and though slow, still look another class. Always had time and just sat deep and made the ball do all the work

Yep. Graceful players, Zidane was the master though. Sheer elegance coupled with brute strength.

Yeah he had another gear from that lot. Perhaps only the Brazilian Ronaldo had such skill, power and football intelligence.

Majestic and brutal.

I'd say the Dutch trio of van Basten, Guillit, Rijkaard had similar levels.

There was still that great mix up to the mid 90s of power and finesse, dying out very quickly now. Can't think of many post Gerrard. Pogba had the tools but too busy being a modern football more concerned with social media and fifa

John Barnes wasn’t slow pre achilles tendon injury. Edit, misread your post. Blind cunt, me.

Vieira was superb to watch too. The term “box-to-box midfielder” was invented to describe him as a footballer.

Pretty sure it was around a long time before as all midfielders used to do both. Lothar Matthäus, Souness, Rijkaard all prime examples and better players

No, that why I said older. Post achilles tear he was slower, heavier and moved into the middle and just dictated play a lot more. Probably the prime example of having to adapt your game post injury

George Best, when you factor in the fact that he was doing his thing with half a bottle of whisky inside him against defenders the Russian Government would be proud to send on kill missions on a surface that would today be condemned by councils overseeing kids Sunday league, I think he might have been not too shabby

Which players do you find the most entertaining to watch?

I'll give you 3: Granit Xakha, Shkodran Mustafi, and David Luiz. Those 3 players are just massively shit, always fuck up in the best possible way and go to pieces.

Also, I'll never tire of watching our ex mental bastard Luis Suarez. The man is just box office gold.

I've never seen a better player live than Luis Suarez!

Zidane

Messi

Xabi Alonso

VVD

Maldini

Larsson

Henry

Zidane and Alonso has both left me aroused on a number of occasions watching them play.

I am too young to have seen him but old videos of Socrates are pretty much porn videos.

Gerrard for me was the best player to watch, had every thing. I hate the narrative of bellends who tell me he lacked "tactical intelligence". The guy was just magic, best passer of a ball I've seen both long and short, the speed of how he'd fizz it into somebodies feet. His crossing was a fucking joke, undefendable at times. Unbelievable in the air, the best shooter of all ball I've seen in England. His ability to dovetail with top players, it was just telepathic at times. What a fucking ridiculous player Steven was.
