I sometimes check one or two right-wing accounts on twitter after going through the ones I prefer looking at to see what bullshit they're going on about (mainly Mike Cernovich), and have seen this get worse for Smollett over the last week or so as they posted updates on the case. One of them that got retweeted a bit said that his attackers saying "This is MAGA country" or something didn't seem real, and when they found out the brothers had been taken in I think they figured he'd been lying.

 

He's also supposed to have sent a racist letter to himself with powder in it to the set of the show he's on, and they had to get a HAZMAT team over there to find that it was aspirin (this was before he got attacked/staged the attack). Can't see that helping his case if it was him.

A few laugh out details coming out: there's video footage showing the Nigerian bros at a store buying ski masks, a clothesline, red hats and gloves. Basically the crime essentials starter pack. And then apparently, Smollett paid them by cheque.

I think it's a natural human reaction to believe a victim, in this case quote unquote. That said, this story has put a lot of people's brains in a pretzel. Plenty of people still don't want to believe he could have faked it despite the investigations and facts that have come out because he's a minority and they can't point fingers.
