I hadn't considered the loss of home grown players to be fair.

The vast majority of fans would never even consider the possibility of selling Gomez but the money/stats men who look at these things with ice in their veins may think differently.

Take Michael Owen as an example, how many times was he missing when we needed him? We built a squad around a player that wasn't available half the time. Having a great player you can't use is worse than having a decent player that you can, in this case we're talking about a defender equally as good but more reliable. Maybe if Matip and Lovren didn't breakdown as regularly as a 1980s Lada then persevering with Gomez would make sense.

He only turns 22 next week. He's got a fair bit to go before he's in the Lovren, Lallana, Sturridge bracket. The lad is class, not exactly Injury prone this season, the lad broke his leg FFS.

I think he broke his leg, rehabbed, then came back and has played more than Lallana over that stretch of time

Wouldn't be surprised if we sign Ruben Neves in the summer. Been whispers of him being of interest to us for a couple years now. He's a proper player and have lots of room to improve as he's only 22. Surely he can't stay at Wolves for another season?

Don't tell NV.

Don't see it.

Who is he replacing?

Fabinho is the 1st choice to sit deep, Neves isn't quick enough to play one of the other two spots for us and Ox, Nabby, Hendo, Gini going nowhere. Milner doesn't seem to be either

He can play the holding role (more Alonso-esque than Fabinho mind) but also as one of the two in front of the holding midfielder. We need more depth, and on the day I think he can be better than both Gini and Milner. In addition he gives the team something we lack at times; creativity, the ability to deliver quality short and long passes to open up defences. Good to have vs park the bus teams. Also his long shots aren't the worst.

At this rate Ajax will be able to afford to relocate to Bramley Dock.

Ajax will become another team altogether and rename themselves Cif.

He’s not getting in ahead of Fabinho mainly because he’s not as good as him but secondly because he’s not the type of holding/deep player we need.  He wouldn’t be able to do half the running the other 2 midfield positions do.  The reason we get so much out of the full backs is because of the running and covering those 2 do.  We won’t go anywhere near him.

UOL: PSG is in advanced negotiations for David Neres, Ajax wants around €50 million for the player. The player’s agents will have a meeting with PSG representatives within the coming days. AC Milan, Everton, and Atlético Madrid are also heavily interested in the player. https://t.co/7JpQ0fxaOq
