Maybe we have become less reliant on  needing someone to pull us out of a hole.

Gerrard had to try and win games on his own all too often down the years for example.

I do understand what aRdja is saying but we seem to be more of a unit these days and not as reliant on a 'talisman'

I think the old chestnut 'defence wins championships' is relevant here.

The big difference between this season and last - Palace game aside - is our defensive brilliance. Alisson. Robertson. The colossus that is Van Dijk. We're not completely reliant on a Salah who's being double marked by opponents because the whole world knows about him.

Rafa almost had the balance right in 2008/09 but didn't have enough potency up front. The opposite was the case in 2013/14.

That we can go seven points clear of the most financially doped club in English history tonight suggests that we've hit on the right formula.

Feels like this could be an absolutely pivotal game in the title race. The stadium needs to be bouncing, the players need to come out flying and show they’re ready to be champions. No mistake, this is an opportunity to lay down a significant marker. We’re the team with the he biggest balls. 4-0 to the reds

This does feel like a really big deal. We need to take advantage of their slip.

Yeah, a win tonight is massive for confidence and belief. It's also a big fuck off to City who may start to lose faith they can overtake us.

I saw city score early and fucked the match off thinking "here we go again".

Came in to work this morning to two glum looking United fans. Didn't even realise Newcastle came back to win!

This. Game. Is. HUGE.

Why were the Newcastle fans glum?

Pep on putting pressure on Liverpool 2 days ago:

“All we can do is win our games and they will feel that Manchester City is always there. It’s all we can do!”

Some pressure indeed. Actually I’m a bit concerned we might drop points tonight due to lack of pressure. Either way it’ll be a blow for them. We win and they’ll be 7 points behind. If we slip, they’ll be fuming they couldn’t take advantage.

Lads, tonight's game is not more important following City losing, we are the ones in the lead, every time City slip up, it gives us more headroom to be able to drop points, and it is unlikely that we will win every game.

If we lose tonight the media will be all over our side ramping up the pressure saying they can't handle the pressure no experience in a title race etc etc.

Its fucking massive for us to step on City's throat now showing no mercy and put a gap big enough that over the next couple of week's their focus changes to putting everything in the champions league instead of the league.
