Report: Liverpool considering giving Sturridge a new deal

I think there’s maybe a perfect natural time for a player to leave the club on a high, where their shortcomings (clearly neither ability or performance when available in Sturridge’s case) are then forever overlooked due to what they contributed to something massive. The way Smicer, Dudek and Traore immediately bring a big smile when thought of, that kind of thing.

Can’t help thinking that IF we finally lift number 19 this season, that’s the time to say nice one and goodbye, with that incredible equaliser against Chelsea a significant milestone along the way.

Obviously if we don’t I’d roll his body up in an old carpet and leave it round the back of an industrial estate.

Great idea to offer a player whose done fuck all for years a new contract.   It’s not like his current one has been a milestone around the clubs neck for years, stopping us from signing a decent forward.

I think most people would agree with that, however the terms of the new deal are going to be far more stringent and no way near as lucrative.

Doesnt matter if we’re not paying him a dime, he’s still wasting a squad place and putting absolutely no pressure on our front three.

People have short memories, we lost a champions league final the last time we lost Salah in a game.

But if he's on low/performance based wages, he won't be taking up the space of an high earner. I think he'll go elsewhere anyway, West Ham or someone will offer him a good pension.

Either way I couldn't care less.

Don't clubs re-sign players who are going to be out of contract so they can then sell them?

I would have thought he could sign a bosman now though, at least with a foreign club. It wouldn't even shock me if he already had and the club are just happy to go with the story so he doesn't get any shit through the tail of the season. I think last year it came out Can agreed his move in November and the club wanted to keep it quiet.

I reckon that wolves game hammered that final nail in the coffin. He can’t run, and he doesn’t even pretend to make an effort. Supremely talented player at his best but we’ve got no room for passengers

Agree and I am sick to death of him tbh. He just frustrates and annoys me more than any other player in the squad and has done since he failed to step up after Suarez left . Never had the guts to take the opportunity to lead the line. Sad really as his ability is without question but he runs a mile under pressure to take responsibility.
