Doom 25th Anniversary

As Doom is 25 years old, it's a good time to honour this game with a thread of it's own. And with the new version coming out soon, it's a good time to see Doom in it's original form.

I remember playing it on PC when I used to work in IT and we had an early form of computer networking in our place of work. We used to play Doom regularly and it was enormous fun. But we were under strict instructions to Alt-Tab out of Doom and into our work applications if any management walked past the office. We became experts.

However one day management had a big client in and they were being shown around the offices. They opened the door so quietly and being so engrossed in shooting each other with rocket launchers we had no idea they were standing watching. Trouble was brewing.

Turns out the big client saw the relaxed nature of our offices that they immediately signed up to the business and we were told we could play Doom as much as we wanted so long as we got our work done! Accounts management were less than impressed!

Brilliant documentary that, now watching part two of it. So much work has been put into creating these games (especially the last one) and I didn't know about Doom 4 being completely abandoned.

Love Doom. The last game was superb, really captured the spirit of the original and bought it into modern gaming. Annoyingly my PC blew itself up a year or so ago so had to patch it up but it's no longer able to run the game or the sequel that's coming out soon. Ironically I bought a new graphics card just to play the last Doom game and now it looks like I need a whole new rig to play the new game. Money will be well spent though (I hope).

It really was good, one of the few games I've completed in recent years. Shame they didn't do any single player DLC for it, just some multiplayer stuff which people weren't really interested in. It'd be good if Bethesda used the id Tech engine for their next Elder Scrolls game whenever it comes, rather than that creaky Gamebryo shite they've been using for years.
