I note NV's subsequent comment & accept the goal should have been disallowed , but where does that leave the incident with Spurs at Anfield last season when Kane was miles offside but after a slight touch from Lovren it was not flagged. We were solemnly told by Riley's groupies that the ref was right because Lovren made a deliberate attempt to play the ball. Well the goalie deliberately saved the ball today didn't he.

The new rule makes an exception when the keeper makes a save -it's not counted as a defender "playing the ball ".

Except the ref had absolutely no idea if Lovren had played the ball. He'd gone over to the linesman, who asked him about it and he replied that he didn't know. Then he just guessed, and proceded to award Spurs a penalty for Karius' perceived foul on Kane (who went over before there was any contact).

What a year 2018 has been for Southgate?

Tyler talks utter nonsense.

When you consider the previous benchmarks for a good year include winning at Wembley against the likes of Lithuania and Moldova in qualifiers, to get the team to a World Cup semi final and finish ahead of Spain and Croatia in their Nations League group to reach the Nations League finals DOES represent a good year for Southgate.

Not sure if this is the right thread but, at 9pm Wednesday, we were 5 points behind citeh and 1 0 down at Burnley.

Great effort lads

Thanks. But I’m not sure we had anything to do with the turnaround...

It's a good year but not 'What a year!' that would entail some silverware would it not?
