"I only want to pay for what I use/support" is fine, but don't be surprised when the NHS is next in line for that mantra to be applied to.

Or the fire service, or the police, fuck me even the RNLI is a charity.  Make it all run on donations.  From poor people. And still fucking complain about who the RNLI choose to save.

There's a generation of fucking weirdos out there who need their tax-payer funded inflated positions exposed for the joke they are.

"I'm rich, why can't you all work hard and be rich too, like me?"

Well, for someone who buys a newspaper everyday you don't seem to have read or understood any of the finance section. None of it. You just live in a magical semi-detached house that doubles in value every 10 years.  We can't break the spell unless we build two million homes.  But don't worry, the Tories are in the Wizard Society too.

There's a real Bollinger Band situation brewing now.

All those people raising money for the NHS the last few years while the tories and their chums were siphoning billions off the taxpayer for themselves then telling us to go and clap for them sums this government up to a fucking tee.

It’s heartwarming to believe that the bbc going down the subscription route will be cheaper than the licence fee.  You socialist don’t half think of those people less fortunate than you ALL of the time.

Fucking hell, does it really need to be in every topic.

What? Is it not ok to point out a problem I have with the BBC?

Negged (revenge negged) but no answer. Good at avoiding questions aren't you SD? Especially when faced with uncomfortable (for you) truths.

More that I don't want to bore people by "debating" the same tedious bullshit over and over again.

You should try it some time.

Hmm I will stick by my criticism of the bbc thanks. The same issue that received over 40’000 signatures only recently. You know, on a thread about the BBC. I mean it’s not like it was me who brought it up this evening ….. you clearly referenced a bbc journo who was rightly sacked for her comments about Hitler despite having a fair point about the lack of media coverage of the slaughter taking place at the time. “Does it really need to be in every topic” well yes as long as you keep bringing it up.

Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what this means, sorry. Just to be clear though, I don't want to be forced to pay for the BBC. FreeSat/FreeView is available to everyone. Free. Except you have to pay the BBC license fee to be able to watch it.

Correct. And at the moment, less financially able people, now including those over 75, have to pay the £159 licence fee whether they want to or not and irrespective of whether they watch any BBC tv output and irrespective of whether they can afford it or not.

The Tories want to get rid as they see it as too far left, the left want to get rid as they see it as too far to the right. Maybe they’ve got it about right?

If you complain that the print media is biased wait till Murdoch controls all the news output on the telly.

I don't think they do,it's all an act. As Stig says, the angle is profit as always.

Profit for the BBC?  How so?

The BBC should remain as it is purely for the Archers.

I'd happily pay for Radio 4. It is a flickering light in a storm of detritus.

The BBC news and politics output has been a disgrace for a long time now, but I don't want it to go or be defunded.  I'd like to think that when this country eventually gets back on its feet, from the mess it's been in, there will be a place for the BBC in it.

Incidentally there was a spell of magnificent TV on BBC2 today during Politics Live in the build up to PMQs.  Tory MP Andrew Bowie and good friend of Christian Wakeford was a guest and he looked stunned and shocked as the news broke of Wakeford's defection.  All played out live and in real time right up to PMQs as it showed Wakeford crossing the house to sit behind Starmer. Brilliant TV.  Lucky timing maybe but the BBC does have a fortunate habit of being in the right place at the right time.
