You surprise me there mate. Thought you might like it.

Not any more. Used to love it when all the characters were about. Reardon, White, Davis, Vergo and the rest of them. I remember the first time I ever watched Hendry and that was it.

Anyway.... Yeah, I can see people just willing to queue up to pay £154.50 a year.

It's all well and good getting rid of the text if everybody has Smart TV's and internet access, but there are plenty of people (mainly older people such as my parents) who don't have internet access and don't want it. They're having a great disservice done to them here!

Get rid of text ? How will Tony M ever find out our scores ?

Needs fucking off. I’ve grown to hate it. Come on Tories, you’d privatise your Nan if she stood still long enough, sell the BBC to some nefarious outfit for pittance and let the fucker fold into the Sky packages. Fucking shite.

I understand the calls for fucking it off, but remember not everybody is willing, and not everybody has the money to pay for sky or virgin or netflix or amazon, and not everybody has access to fast reliable broadband! The terrestrial channels are still needed.

I for one don't mind the licence fee, I'd rather pay towards public service broadcasting than some cunt like Murdoch!

I always thought privatisation was bad?

I don't want it privatised mate, it does need to become impartial again but it needs to stay public for me.

There were so many (unfounded mostly) accusations that it was a left wing echo chamber that the editorial narrative of the corporation has swung to the right in the last few years, and it feels weird for me to say but it needs to go back to the centre! A job for Stronts??

No, not everyone does have the money to pay for those things. That said, I don’t really see why I, as somebody who virtually has zero use from the BBC, should pay 154 quid per year to subsidise Rico watching Attenborough. It isn’t ‘needed’, it’s desirable. My major issue is that I think they’re shitbags and we are forced to pay for it if we want to watch a blue ray. It’s fucking bollocks. I’m this system, somebody on benefits is paying as much as a millionaire, even if he never watches the TV. It’s wank.

I always thought that the BBC pandered to the governments of the day, mainly in an effort to remain publicly funded. However I stopped watching the BBC years ago apart from the odd footy match. (I did have a spell when I genuinely didn't have a TV for about 5 years, and if it wasn't for this pesky BT box that I switch on only for UHD footy I could jib off the licence fee again.

I understand the argument that people make about keeping it but I wouldn't miss the BBC and I think it's days are numbered.

Oh and Attenborough isn't even on the BBC now, they lost Top Gear to Amazon and their footy coverage is shit.

‘I thought privatisation was bad’. No you didn’t, you voted for the party of privatisation to save yourself a few quid. You’d sell off the healthcare service if it saved you a tenner per year. Privatisation of necessary public services is bad. Privatisation of entertainment and luxuries isn’t. You like the BBC, so therefore you’re happy for a low paid licence fee payer to subsidise your TV. You’re an inherently selfish person.

What does this 6 music channel do? I've never used it so have no idea.

It plays more sort of fringe or niche music that you don't get on channels like Radio 1 or commercial stations. It's really good, you should give it a whirl. Some of the more specialised shows are on in the evening/ late night and are well worth a listen if you like the particular genre of music or want to discover some new stuff- as an example Craig Charles's funk and soul show plays some banging stuff- I'm not even a soul fan and I like listening to it.

It's not meant to be just entertainment though is it? It's a public service, and that's what they need to get back to!

6 music is worth the licence in its own!

What need do the BBC TV channels provide if not entertainment? 6 music isn’t worth shit to me, so why am I forced to pay for it? Seriously, why do I have to pay for Eastenders and Antiques Roadshow and for Matt Le Blanc to present Top Gear? I’m not saying these shows shouldn’t exist for the people who want to watch them, I’m saying why should somebody on minimum wage pay £154 for 6 Music when s/he doesn’t own a radio or for Top Gear and Eastenders just because he watches Netflix on a TV he saved up for.

It needs, in my opinion, to survive on its own two feet. Whether that’s as a commercial free subscription service like Netflix, Hulu, Prime and others, an opt-in service subsidised by a progressive taxation system, or through commercial advertising like so many other channels. It’s beyond me why we sell off parts of services that are vital to the health and wealth of the nation, yet keep this antiquated, biased, often poor quality service at a flat rate for all people regardless of income (other than elderly). It’s pretty ridiculous.

I’m not short of a few quid to pay the licence, so from a personal financial perspective it’s not the end of the world. Not everybody is like that. Now, I’m off to watch a BluRay I purchased. I’ve already paid for it. Shall I give my roadshow money to Rico or straight to Boris?

In short... I don’t like it.

The reason they keep it is for propaganda purposes, see recent election. The licence fee is also a good way of getting more money from the plebs too. Why not just run adverts like every other station does?

Must admit views on here never fail to amaze me, most people are usually arguing for the nationalization of a good part of the economy but just about the best publicly funded broadcaster in the world, no, this needs to be funded commercially.
