At the risk of getting slated by our resident Stoke City haters, I’ve tried to capture a poignant image - Victoria Ground was their home for 119 years from 1878.

 

Their single solitary top flight trophy was The League Cup in 1972. My Dad and my Grandad were at Wembley that day, balling their eyes out, because although they both stood on the Kop for 2 decades, as Reds, both were born in Stoke.

I thought the Victoria Ground was a decent ground in terms of atmosphere and general noise. A good old fashioned footy ground rather than the sterile new build grounds they throw up nowadays.

Anyway, Jim McNichol with Bryn the police dog that bit him during a relegation decider which saved Torquay United's league status (as they scored a late equaliser in the additional injury time the ref played as a result of the injury).  I think Bryn was high in the running as Torquay's "cult hero" in that football focus thing a few years back.

 

While I'm on the subject of Torquay (a mad little club - they were saved from relegation again a few years later because the conference side coming up couldn't afford to improve the ground to league standards), the superfan's superfan, the brilliantly named Paul Bastard (rattle not pictured):

Apparently he takes his dinner with him to every game and eats it at half time with a napkin and knife and fork.
